Re: VZ Blinked said by CXM_Splicer:The managers are incapable of installing a triple play, the most they could do is replace set top box and pray that it worked. I know install dates were pushed back to almost next year, but saying managers are incapable of installing triple play cannot be true. Install FIOS is not a complex job. Hooking up equipment is easy. How could they not be capable of doing this? -- ...brought to you by Carl's Jr. |

They simply don't have the training or time to work on it. The video meters/readings are foreign to them... most don't know what an IP address is, forget about installing a network. It is more than just hooking up equipment. I certainly hope some of them tried so they can see their goal of 2 complete triple plays per person per day is a fantasy land. |

If the managers are not qualified enough to know what an IP address is or even how to hook up a LAN in their house then why are they working at a telecommunications company? If you dont understand the product and the steps invovled in installation and maintenance then you cant manage anything.
Doesnt verizon train their managers and actually make them do installations so they understand the work so they can manage it??? -- ...brought to you by Carl's Jr. |

 | No, they don't. Their opinion is that you don't need to know how to do the job, you need to know how to manage.
There is a huge divide now between the managers that did the job and the managers off the street. Many of the knowledgeable managers have retired after seeing where the company was heading. Most of the management here now has never done the actual job they manage. |

 | reply to CXM_Splicer which is why the company was going to hire contract labor. OBTW isn't a SCAB someone who crosses a union picket line like say a union worker or contractor. A manager who already works for the company and is forced to do union labor is not a SCAB. |

I assume Verizon knew this contract was going to expire? They brought in managers from all over to fill in for the striking workers, correct? They also 'trained' these managers in repair in the months leading up to the strike? So WHERE then were the contractors? If there were going to be any, they would have been there from day 1.

A manager who already works for the company and is forced to do union labor is not a SCAB. This has been discussed here before... the usual definition is a person "who takes a striking worker's place on the job"; this definition would include managers. Check any online dictionary, if you find something that excludes managers please let me know. |
