1 edit | College apt. setup Moved into a new apartment recently with some friends. This complex is brand new and came pre-wired for FIOS, with dedicated Ethernet and coax lines to each room (3 bedrooms + Den.)
In pic one (from left to right, top to bottom) is the FIOS Westell router, At&t 3G microcell, HP Medismart Windows Home Server, Netgear FS108 switch, Vonage adapter, and an APC UPS.
I think when they were building this place, they did not think thru the idea of what should be in the panel, besides the ONT, as the panel is too small to contain anything else. When Verizon was here they actually had to install the Ethernet ports pictured above the panel, since the router would not fit.
Connected to the network we have: 2 MacBook Pros 1 PC 1 Windows Home Server 2 iPhone's 1 T-Mobile Android phone 1 PS3 1 Xbox 360 1 Wii 1 blu-ray player 1 slingbox 1 Pioneer A/V receiver 4 Verizon TV set-top boxes --

I'm going to have to put up some pics of the jungle of cat6 in my house here soon... Yea, we got a pretty good deal on it. The apartment complex actually pays for the Prime HD package and the internet, we just pay the difference for the extreme HD plus HBO and Showtime, and the 4 boxes (1 is a dvr.) The only other option in this area is Charter, and I don't think this complex is even wired for it. --

I moved from 20+mbps near Seattle to 3.3mbps out here in Pullman :/ Also, what wireless router are you using/how are speeds wired vs wireless? -- Blame it on the C2H5OH |
