Hurricane Irene?

Boy, we never shoulda had that conversation about how we hardly ever get any serious hurricanes here, eh?

The current models are showing Hurricane Irene making a straight run up the east coast through NYC and just west of Boston. Of course it is still five days out and a lot could (and probably will) change. The weather.com map has it hitting us as a category 1, which is not too bad.

Something to keep an eye on this week, anyway.

We've been lucky for the last decade or so. I guess we are do for a good blow..... But please don't blow all the leaves off. I love the colors of fall!

"Spaghetti Models" show a low probability of a NE hit.
We'll probably get some wind and rain from the west side.

Thursday odds.

Though strong, I predict non hurricane force winds and a lot of heavy rain.
That's for Boothbay.......

Each time I over-prepare for one of these things, it is either a near or complete miss.

My plan for tomorrow is to begin my over-preparation.

Like regular season football, wait until Thursday for odds.

I'm ready

You can never have too much beer even when you over-prepare.

And wine and rum and hurricane mix.
The other stuff too. Ice. Mostly beer.

The beer is cold for the first couple of days after a power loss, then you have to get creative to keep it cold!!

But, the main thing VAX I agree, is to not run out!!

Prepare for disaster with lots of beer and ice and salt. Mythbusters confirmed that putting salt on ice in a cooler full of beer will cool the beer faster. Snow will always keep beer cold in a blizzard. Too many chips and pretzels are good to have on hand too.
Stock up before everyone else does.

I still think this will not be a direct hit as some think it will be. But either way, we will get a lot of rain and wind.

I am totally following the advice of vaxvms See Profile in preparation for the hurricane storm.

OK, it's Thursday. What have you got for us, Mr. Coddah?

The forecasts sure don't look promising.

No Hurricane Watches or Warnings have been issued that include Cape Cod. Standard room cancellation policies are still in effect.

Monday night looks like it will be stormy. Maintenance and Housekeeping are on watch. I'm going to put early odds as a Tropical Depression kind of storm. These things are tricky so it may change. I've cleared a path to the boarding up stuff and charging the screw guns.

People are making fun of me because I am considering driving home to Ohio tomorrow to avoid the storm, however, I am home alone with my 4yr old and really don't feel like going days without power.

Wow... this could get ugly.
I guess I better get gas for the generator and charge some batteries. Stock up on necessities and water.

Okay, now I am a little afraid. They are calling this the worst storm in decades. The last storm I went through (Bob) didn't really do much of anything to my property. There was wind, but I was (am) protected by a lot of trees and despite the 60mph winds Bob blew, an empty Coke can NEVER blew off my porch railing.
News says this storm is going to cause considerable damage. I just hope the trees don't come down.......

Absolute worst case scenario:
Storm surge floods the lobby and brings in a man-eating shark.
And I run out of beer.
Brought home 50 lbs. of ice and put it in the basement freezer. 70 feet above high water.
This could get messy.Last year's "Hurricane My Name is Earl" was good practice.

Fixed.

I think I'm more worried about my parents who live near NYC with lots of big trees near their house... or my brother who is almost certainly going to have serious flooding at the house he just bought.
