Hurricane Katia

Has been named.. Still a long way away.. Expected to be a hurricane some time soon, but not anything to get excited about for at least 5 days. Right now it's looking like Bermuda may be the only land that will have to worry.

Re: Tropical Storm Katia

Keeping fingers crossed here. I understand it might take the same track as Irene. Hope not. Getting married on the 10th. Beach ceremony and backyard reception.

It is already well north track of Irene that plowed into Puerto Rico.

If you mean up the east coast, that looks very likely but with this early a turn may stay offshore.

No threat this week
This morning Katia is looking quite impressive for a new tropical storm. well defined inflow and outflow patterns are setting up, and she is already trying to open her eye.

Still she looks to be too far North to make it to the mainland US. Currently it looks as if she will track north in the Atlantic.

How else would you pronounce it???

Looks to be turning ever more north, maybe a problem for Bermuda.

Please go away Katia, we can't handle another tropical system here so soon.

Already started to turn north. Looks like Bermuda needs to be vigilant. .

Hummm...
As of 11PM Katia graduated from middle school and is now a hurricane. Also 4 out of 6 models are seeing something and now throwing in a bit of a left turn in a few days.

Not good, that's basically what Isabel, Floyd and a few others have done before hitting the mainland.

On the internet, no one knows the answer but everyone knows why you're asking the wrong question.

Unfortunately only 1 model is currently showing that likely. And one other saying might straighten out and get So FL.

But guess whats in the average middle

Still a large possibility of being, a minor wind and large rain event, depending how built by then. Neither really needed in the Mid Atlantic Carolina area again so soon.

Re: Hurricane Katia

The updating tracking puts this more likely to hit US now, the conditions in a few days from now could be right to make this a big hurricane. Definitely should be watched.

Once again, Tropical Storm Katia

Katia, is apparently having a bad hair day, and has been downgraded to a tropical storm for now. Models are still shifting around but not to worry there is plenty of time to have a nice Holiday weekend, and complain about Katia Monday.

Just put the generator back in the garage.

Maybe I shouldn't drain the gas tank just yet...

Katia is still struggling along as a very weak hurricane at 75MPH. The part to watch out for is that the computer models are diverging quite a bit.
