Tropical Storm Katia, can't make up her mind! ...females... Did someone sneeze? |
The track Katia follows approaching the US will be somewhat determined by what Lee does. So far Lee is taking the weekend off to vacation in Southern Louisiana. It looks like we are going to have to wait for Katia to make up her mind.
Here is an excerpt from the NHC Discussion:
The longer-term track of Katia seems dependent on the trough associated with the remnants of Lee and a procession of shortwave troughs moving through the northeastern United States...both of which the models are handling differently to varying degrees. There has been a significant westward shift in the guidance this cycle...along with a notable increase in the spread. The official track at this longer range is of somewhat lower confidence...given the spread...and is adjusted to the left...but not as far left as the latest multi-model consensus.
In case you didn't quite understand that, they said, "we don't know where she's going just yet". OR.. "It should go somewhere between Miami and Bermuda." |

Looks like Katia is going to stay out at sea. |

| That button hook around Bermuda is about the same as 3 days ago. Early on I didn't think it would get West of Bermuda, but I've had to rethink that. The models are clustered now which is a good sign. Still this all depends on what Lee does, so I'd tend to still be cautions and see if the models continue with this path over the next 48 hours. We'll also have to see if Katia wants to follow the plan. I'm not sure if she can get WiFi out there, so she may not know where to go. |

| reply to SmokChsr Katia, I tell ya this one is just keeping them guessing, First it was the track, now it's the intensity. From Tropical Storm to Cat 2 in one advisory, that's pretty rare. Then she zoomed on up to a cat 4, and is now back down to a cat 3. the tracks have all come together, and show her making a button hook around Bermuda.
As long as the message got to Katia about what she's supposed to do, she should cause few problems.
then there is Invest 95, still way East in the Atlantic. It looks quite impressive on satellite and is developing a good rotation pattern. It's at 60% chance of development (I'm actually thinking named today) But that's for another thread. |

Hurricane Katia Cat 1 Katia, is now a Cat 1 Storm still on track to do her button hook. No need to say much more unless something changes.
Invest 95 is now TD14, still being lazy and holding off on a new topic until it's named. |
