ATT/Yahoo Webmail Problem

In the last few days, all my incoming POP3 mail received and read using Thunderbird 6.0.1 is also showing up in webmail as unread in the TRASH folder instead of the INBOX folder!!! This happens:

- with both classic and new webmail formats
- with or without all of my normal webmail filters deleted
- even on test mails I send myself

It does NOT happen when I send test mails to a subaccount.

Anyone else seeing this?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Do you have your Thunderbird set to leave copy of message on the server when it pops the email?

Nope - why?

Ok, so your Thunderbird is then set to delete messages when it pops the server.

Yahoo is now moving emails to trash when the email client, like Thunderbird, Outlook etc, asks the email to be deleted.

In the past, Yahoo would instantly delete these emails when the email client popped the server and leave a copy of server wasn't checked. So now they are moved to the trash instead of being instantly deleted.

Since you don't have Thunderbird set to leave a copy of message on server, your email client is telling Yahoo to delete them when Thunderbird downloads them.

Thanks for the explanation. I got a confused description of this change frrom a customer and hadn't had time to look into it yet.

Thanks from me too. Just tested it with Thunderbird closed by sending myself a test mail from an iPad. It showed in the webmail inbox. After I opened Thunderbird and read it, it showed in the webmail trash (as unread).

I can live with it, though IMO it's a stupid change by Yahoo. The thing that really bugs me is that neither ATT nor Yahoo could be bothered to TELL anyone about it. But then, what else is new!

Yahoo makes changes all the time to their email service without notifying thier ISP Partners about it (as is this case). Sometimes we don't find out about the change until customers call in about it and ask. Keep in mind the emails don't stay in trash forever, Yahoo will most likely empty the trash folder in a few hours.

So you don't have to log in and delete the emails in trash, they will be gone within 24 hours most of the time, unless you just REALLY want to =).

My guess on why the change occurred - is to actually help customers. Those customers who might get hacked and their email downloaded by a hacker on to a client. Instead of the emails being gone , the emails goto trash instead for awhile.

So some customers might be able to get back their emails.

Or some customers who PC might crash and lose all their email in the client. At least SOME of the emails will still be there in the trash for a short while.

But I'm guessing its more for the compromised accounts or the user who setup client for the 1st time and didn't mean to have the email deleted.
