[ps3] What do I lose and gain

Hello,
If I wire my PS3 to my router, what do I lose with it not being wireless? Also besides speed upgrade with wired, what do I gain?

Hello,
Thanks for the info. I just want to make sure if I wire the PS3 I can still connect to my laptop and PC. Also if I do wire the PS3 do I have to do any setting on my router? Sorry for the basic questions, this is new to me.

Thanks

LAter

Think of the PS3 as just another computer in regards to your router. As long as you have the spare ports you can plug all your other network enabled devices (PC, Laptop, Internet capable TV, those freaky refrigerators, etc) without any interference. The only benefits/downsides you get are the exact same ones you get from any device you move from wireless to wired and vice versa.

If you use it a media extender streaming HD content with 10+Mbps bitrates isn't going to work well.

I get good speeds with wireless PS3, but I upgraded my internet and now the wireless speed stayed the same, if I wire the PS3 I should get better. To do wireless I would need a N adapter for the PS3. I also know like the post above I could do with the Bridge, but I think I will just run the wire.

Thanks for the info.

I hooked up the wire to the PS3 and I am going fine. Should I be setting anything i my router? I have a LinkSYS WRT54g Ver. 6.

Should I be doing something in the Gaming applications section of the router set up?

Thanks

A suggestion for down the road...

If your other gear is gigabit capable, invest in a gigabit ethernet switch and plug everything into it, instead of the WRT's LAN ports.

Well, all but the patch cable from one of the WRT LAN ports, to a port on the gig-e switch!

I use my PS3 mostly as a media extender and the gig-e makes a HUGE difference on the HD content I stream from my HTPCs.

Regards,

Randy
