CNNMoney did a recent article,

And they show ViaSat's coverage in this picture:

Do you know anything about these "upgraded beams?"

Sat is up!

How long will it take WildBlue to offer current users the updated speeds? I haven't seen anything on their website yet. "i've got a need, a need for speed".

"The company expects to test the satellite over the next several months. Commercial subscription sales are expected to begin in mid-January. Services will roll out region by region as ViaSat-1’s spot beams and ground equipment are tested and placed into service. Full roll-out of the service nationwide is expected to be completed in March."

Can any of the Canadian installers confirm if this new offering: »www.xplornet.com/SatPlans.aspx from xplornet is indeed related to the ViaSat-1 launch and why this is not available to all regions. Yukon is completely missing.
The higher business packages are tempting.

This video »www.xplornet.com/SatOverview.aspx just answered the first question, but I'd still be interested why there is no coverage for most of the northern regions. Can/will they add beams later on?

Xplornet has also signed up to offer their customers service from the Hughes Jupiter satellite which is scheduled to launch in June? 2012, and will have more coverage..and I suspect the similar pricing and speeds as ViaSat1

"For its Jupiter satellite, under construction by Space Systems/Loral of Palo Alto, Calif., and scheduled for launch in mid-2012, Hughes decided on a less-complicated bent-pipe design. Jupiter will have about 100 gigabits per second of throughput."

PS: Launch in mid-2012 means most likely not available until end of next year.

Beam 2, »www.satbeams.com/!ajax/embed?beam=6629
of Hughesnet Jupiter, should be a Yukon beam(or Yukon south).

Estimated beam pattern of Jupiter for North America..... Subject to change.

ViaSat1 is dedicated to high use areas.

The way they explained it to us, when they transition a large number of current subscribers over to the new sat, it will free up bandwidth and space on the current satellites and transponders to allow for the higher speeds to be pushed to current customers.

As for that actually happening and how it will work... I don't get to ask such things

If all the hype is / was right then both Jupiter and viasat 1 can each hold more customers than all the satellites up there combined so I doubt they will overcrowd it to soon. The fap is better but the speeds on that top plan are not much better than I am seeing consistantly on Hughesnet now so I suspect they won't steal many customers from HN either but they might get a few. I think you all on Wildblue might actually be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, grats.

BTW, I didn't see it mentioned here but some of the news threads I have read said they should be offering this to residential customers within the next 60 days or so or thats the plan.

This is a great video, you should take the time and watch. This is xplornet in canada explaining Viasat-1 and how it affects canada.

Well yeah, makes one drool, and then disappoint by not giving any details when Northerners get served. We can't even get in line yet. Check the map of Manitoba and you know what I mean regarding coverage. I guess less populated areas will be served in 2013 to 2015. So I don't get too exited by their promotions unless they come clean on their schedule.
