Re: Remote (Network) DVR+ Service is terrible

As I always say to these threads

It simply doesn't get better than a real HTPC.

10 channel guide.

Simply beautiful interface:

Whole house dvr solution (when using extenders) and a virtually unlimited amount of Hours to record with:

Hi - Just tested it and msg on channel 71 is recording the correct channel.

They identified and fixed the problem I had with recording MSG. The issue was only on my system which is why you didn't see it.

They also know what the problem is with the outages we had and are working on that and are working on resolving the other issues with DVR+ based on the phone call I got from them tonight.

Thanks - I called yesterday as I've missed a few single time record shows and was upset enough to call. They are sending a tech today to check signal levels but I can't imagine it's on my end. They also asked me to make sure I am turning the boxes off so they can get updates.

The original reason I called was to ask them to shut it off and turn the service back on like I am a new customer. I was thinking that could clear up some profile issue as I'm convinced there is some sort of software issue with my account. My daughter used an ipad to record something and now every time she uses it they put a pin code on those recordings. Numerous phone calls and no one could turn that 'feature' off or tell me how to stop it here.

kevin_chins

@rogers.com

the problems are all on their end, since none of the recording data is stored locally on the boxes.

sometimes the recordings stay for 2-3 weeks and other times they don't even repeat the next week. I wish I can complain and ask for some money back but it's still free for a year.. such a shitty product

You are just as infatuated with your Win7 HTPC as I am with mine, and I haven't yet customized my interface to look as pretty as yours.

Only challenge I'm having is getting my ripped DVD movies to show details on them like it does with shows recorded from TV, but sooner or later I'll figure it out.

Cheers

For sure! I think I'm preaching about it because for 2 or 3 years I thought "someday I'll figure out an HTPC"

Now that I have.......I wish i did it earlier !!

It's working much better now. I have noticed that my all episode recordings are scheduling fine now. They told me they thought the fix was going to be pushed last week.

More fixes have been pushed out, scheduled recordings are reappearing.

DVR+ has weekly failures. It is a seriously deficient product, poorly designed and implemented. I've had it since the beginning of July 2011, have reported over 50 issues/problems, most of them not fixed, including that it uses a different program guide than what we get on screen, and it has major failures every single week, which indicates either horribly written software, or that plus no back up servers, which for a cloud based system, is a disaster. Just yesterday, I had six scheduled recording. Two vanished and were never recorded, one recorded properly and three are totally blank! Last Friday, it would not let me schedule recordings on channel 2.

Most of the time, it takes them day to even acknowledge that a problem exists with DVR+.

I'm fed up with it and the typical Cablevision attitude. It's time to make an example of the company.

If this was a consumer product that could injure people, the FTC would have made Cablevision pull this product months ago.

The DVR + works great for me no problems at all. The only problem I have is the small amount of space and the lack of rew live TV.

it has done that to me too, but I have had less problems with it forgetting to record which in the beginning was a big problem...hopefully they get it figured out soon - great idea when it works

I don't like if your on the SA 8300 you can not record to the MR-DVR.

I don't have the RS-DVR, but can you enter channel 1001 to schedule a manual recording on the 8300?

No; you can playback DVR+ on channel 1001 but you can't schedule DVR+ recordings on a SA8300, you can only schedule them from a regular box.

Even saying "Record Channel X from 10:30-11:00" is not supported via the DVR channel? I realize most people record by the program name (via the guide page), but I was just curious, as it's how I record programs that go back to back to avoid that ~30 second gap between them that turns up by recording each individually.

There is no "manual recording" option in DVR+, all recordings are initiated from the guide data.
