No, I don't want to pay more than $99 for a device. What does paying $600+ for a smartphone get me besides no contract (which I don't have a problem with)?

Well if you have 10 manufactures fighting for your money, and the carriers, didnt lock the market to produce artificially higher prices. I think you would see a benefit. Plus you would not be tied to a network. Get it ?

All I see is a lot of "ifs" in your statement. Compound that with a majority mindset in the US that cellphones are essentially "free", along with our disparate networks, and I think it's challenging to get to where you suggest.
