Re: [Hockey] 2011-2012 Ottawa Senators Season Thread said by thebaron:For a team that was predicted to be dead last, I'm quite happy with their performance, I don't think I could ask for more really.
I wasn't very pleased with Foligno being ejected yesterday, that was a bad call. Alfie gets elbowed in the head - no call. Foligno gets two knee-on-knees - no call on either one. Winchester gets checked from behind and out with concussion - no call.

| reply to Kardinal Good article in the Mop & Pail about Z-bad:
Senators Zibanejad not your typical Swede
Known for his ability to play beyond his years hes been skating against men in the Swedish Elite League Zibanejad likes it best on North American-sized rinks because theres more contact, more hitting. Its how he prefers his hockey, as he has said many times. I have to give credit to Pierre Dorion and Bryan Murray for the 6th round pick (178th overall) in 2010, as he's really turning heads at the WJC right now. I'm speaking, of course, of Mark Stone. Another Alfie (6th round, 133rd overall) in the making? It's too early to tell but he's got promise, to be sure. -- All of us get lost in the darkness, dreams learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter, dreamers turn to look at the cars Join Team Helix

| reply to Kardinal Senators sign 2011 first round picks Noesen and Puempel to entry-level contracts
Noesen, 18, was Ottawas second first-round pick (21st overall) in the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft. A 6-1, 198-pound right-winger from Plano, Texas, Noesen has scored 13 goals, 21 assists and recorded 32 penalty minutes in 30 games with the Ontario Hockey Leagues Plymouth Whalers this season.
Puempel, 18, was Ottawas third first-round pick (24th overall) in the 2011 entry draft. A 6-1, 201-pound left-winger from Essex, Ont., Puempel has scored 17 goals, 15 assists and recorded 27 penalty minutes in 29 games this year with the OHLs Peterborough Petes. Zibanejad was already signed, and Stone was signed in September, so it looks like Bingo is going to have some new firepower in the lineup in September. -- All of us get lost in the darkness, dreams learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter, dreamers turn to look at the cars Join Team Helix

And unfortunately the HD equipment for the control room won't be installed until after the All-Star Game. The LED rings should be in before then, though. |

| reply to Kardinal The Golden Gawd scores his 11th of the season, and 400th of his career, and it's a the game winner in overtime. You can't script this stuff. Great work by the whole team in the 2nd and 3rd periods after being down 3-0 in the first to come back and tie the game, then win it in overtime.

| #Sens beat the #Devils tonight in OT.
Alfie scored his 401st goal of his Career
Anderson now leads all goalies (and Scott Gomez) for points with 5 assists
Sens are now in 6th in the East... are they overacheiving or just the right combination youth and vets to be dangerous -- "The hardest thing about any political campaign is how to win without proving that you are unworthy of winning." ~ Adlai E. Stevenson |

| reply to Kardinal The Big Rig is out with a 'high body injury': Senators D Phillips day-to-day with 'mild concussion'
quote: Ottawa Senators veteran defenceman Chris Phillips is day-to-day with a "mild concussion."
The 33-year-old sustained the injury on a hit in Monday's 3-2 overtime win over the New Jersey Devils.
Phillips missed one game in late December due to an upper body injury and has recorded one assist through three games since. He has ten assists and an even plus-minus rating in 39 games this season.
Last week was only his 2nd missed game since the lockout, so he's quite durable but it looks like he's going to miss a few more. I don't have any video of the hit in question as he played a few shifts afterwards before leaving the bench. Let's hope Gonchar is back tomorrow. If not, it'll likely Borowiecki or Gryba that get called up. -- All of us get lost in the darkness, dreams learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter, dreamers turn to look at the cars Join Team Helix
