security for client mode networking

Both the OpenWRT and DD-WRT router firmwares provide some various options for configuring the host router units for client bridging.

Are routers operating in one of these client mode configurations subject to the same security risks as other clients connecting to a wireless access point? For example would a router operating in client mode transmit its MAC identity in its header information in the same way?

Can any protocols for securing wireless networks work between a router operating in client mode and other router(s) operating in access point mode?

Yes. Which is why you should secure the link with WPA/WPA2 and a good password just like any wireless client.

Not sure why this is included in the same paragraph as your previous question but all network adapters wired and wireless send the transmitting and receiving station's MAC address in the packet. This is how data is transmitted between stations. It has nothing to do with securing the wireless link.
