Metrocast Basic cable, do I get HD channels via QAM (NH)

I am thinking about switching to Metrocast (I live in central NH) for basic cable service (I already have high-speed Internet with them).

I can't really get any channels w/o cable or satellite. But I am sick of paying all the little extra receiver fees from Directv and want to avoid it with Metrocast.

My TV has a QAM tuner. Their website says I can get them, the customer service rep says I have to get the Metrocast receiver to get them.

So.... Are the locals provided in HD via the QAM tuner or do I need to pay for the Metrocast equipment? I would like just the basic Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS in HD. I just want to connect the cable to the back of the TV, no extra boxes or anything.

Thanks

If you have a QAM tuner, you can get the basics. All of the channels you mentioned will come in. I'm in Rochester, and my mother in law has expanded basic (no box) and basically channels 2-85.

They come in as they would with a regular HDTV. WMUR has a 9.1, 9.2, etc.

One caveat, channel 6 on my system is WFXT (25); however the HD feed over QAM is on 25.1, not 6.1 (it goes with the "real" channel").

Hope this helps.

Hi All,

I am in Rochester, NH and I just installed a new TV and am using it for all the channels I can get without a cable box. I auto-scanned the network and came up with all of the X.1, X.2, X.5, etc... channels. I learned something about M-Cast yesterday...the tech told me that their is an OTA antenna at their Rochester, NH Offices so that all of the regionally broadcast OTA (HD) broadcasts can be grabbed from the M-Cast coax.

This news is way cool, I wonder though after searching the metrocast.com site, these forums, and Google...is there a comprehensive list of these OTA channels anywhere? Once I am done, I will prolly have made my own, but thought I'd put it out there first.

Thanks All,

Basically all the local broadcast channels. I don't think there is a database.

For the most part, they have to pass through the channels they receive off the antennae if it is within your DMA. Being in Rochester, you will get the NH/MA and some ME stations (no Maine FOX or MyTV)

2 - PBS - Boston
4 - CBS - Boston
5 - ABC - Boston
6 - NBC - Portland
7 - NBC - Boston
8 - ABC - Portland
9 - ABC - Manchester
11 - PBS - NHPTV (Durham)
13 - CBS - Portland
21 - ION - Concord
25 - FOX - Boston
38 - WSBK TV38 - Boston
50 - WBIN - Derry

For *most* channels, .1 is the HD feed. .2-.4 are others (SD feeds or other co-channels). .5 is the same thing Metrocast sends to the boxes for SD channels (EG: if you choose channel 5 on the box, it will tune to the same station as 5.5 on your QAM tv).

Hope this helps.

Thanks tenpin...you rock! I was wondering what the .2, .5 and other decimals were classified as. Now I know.

The funny thing is although they are on QAM, they don't have them on the regular system. WTF??!
