Canadian ISP Summit

Just thought I'd post this as it's starting to take form quite well: »www.ispsummit.ca/

This summit is aimed mainly at ISP's themselves and since a number of different ISP's are on this forum I thought it worthwhile to post

Tom Little must hate having Steve Anderson's bio picture right above his own. (One could ay that Steve is on top of Tom and that makes a pretty ugly image

When will the list of presentations/schedule going to be published ?

Is this going to be a single stream of presentations, or will there be periods where multiple sessions will be held simultaneously ?

Will George Cope disrupt a lunch with one of his speeches like he did at the Telecom Summit ?

Will registration accept credit cards, or only old fashioned cheques ?

So, is it irony or design that has this event being hosted next door to 151 Front?

Meals (2 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 2 dinners and coffee breaks) So even the small ISPs have lunch together? I thought this was an incumbent type of activity.

I'd say that it isn't proximity to 151 but rather to the convention centre which is significant. In a couple years, they want to have grown to a point where they need the whole convention centre !

Last time I was in that hotel was in winter 1987 for DECUS convention (and yes, back then, we were big enough to take a huge chunk of the convention centre). But I don't think it was inter-continental back then. Hotels went through a phase where they exchanged brands like you change socks.

I rememer this because I had made a kamikaze travel arrangements. After sessions ended on thursday, I flew City Express (think Porter but back in the 1980s) to Montreal and there was a snow storm in Toronto. Took subway frm downtown to the Velodrome, participated in a race, took subway to central station, and took the overnight train back to Toronto and was back for first sessions on friday morning Friday evening I took the train back to montreal and saturday went to velodrome again for training and sunday did another race Didn't miss a single training session that week

The location is pretty good, albeit expensive. Telecom Summit is nearer to the airport where you have a selection of affordable and expensive hotels (Bell stays at the expensive ones, and the CRTC/government stays at the affordable one)

I have to say that CNOC who is about 1 year old by now, has exceeded my expectations despite clashes with me earlier thisi year. This summit is a very good idea. I a hoping that Rogers and Cogeco and Videotron will have significant presence there so that ISPs can talk "shop" offline.

Yes Mr Lerner. Such events exist to foster golfing activities. Lots of golfing. But you can still learn a lot.

BTW, unfortunatly, the verandah on the CN tower closes in October. So by the time the ISP summit is held, we won't have a chance to take a stroll on the outdoor verandah at the top of the CN tower and lean over to enjoy the view.

»www.edgewalkcntower.ca/ gives more info about the newly opened verandah.

I like this part: to make sure you’re ready for the next generation of the Internet. (What a laugh!)

Fact is Canada is at least 20 years behind the rest of the world and behind all the third world countries when it comes to internet.

It's so we can save money on hotel rooms and just sleep in our data centres....

A new meaning for CO-LO ?

Just to be clear, I'd vote for a F-N Beagle or Jack Russell Terrier on Oct 6th, if he/she/it promised to remove the HST from GASOLINE, Home Heating, and Home Electricity bills in Ontario.

This signup page at:

Indicates that this starts on the 14th at 11:30am and ends on the 16th at 13:00

Not sure how official those times are. the ispsummit.ca web site still doesn't have the schedule. (publication of the schedule of a conference is a key that can only happen once many pieces of the puzzle fall into place)

I have only seen a draft version to date - give it a bit of time, there's lots of stuff going on with this even that I personally think is quite positive

One of the attendee companies can just drop a length of fibre out a window to service the conference.

Mr Stewart, having the schedule published allows people in distant cities to start to make bookings.

I definately agree - it's not my place to share details as I'm sure you can appreciate though
