If that is now displayed for everyone to see then I will no longer give any thumbs. I will simply send the person an IM with my PRIVATE thanks.

They are not publically displayed and I'm not suggesting that they should be. I'm referring to the fact that only 5 thumbs up or approvals show privately.
In other words, if 10 people approve of one of your posts, you will only know about 5 of them.
