Tropical things.. Before the storm..

I was thinking rather than tie up a new topic each time something is thinking about developing out in the Atlantic, perhaps just one topic to cover all the different happenings until they turn into something more exciting.

Once they have a name, threaten a US mainland strike, or for whatever reason they warrant a separate topic then by all means they get one.

Invest 99 9/18/11

Click for full size
Chugging along
I wanted to mention this one since it showed up on the screen for a bit yesterday and then was deleted today.
It's near 17N 52W. While all the focus is currently on invest 98 (a bit south and further East) this one looks like a little storm that is really determined. It had all of it's convection ripped off the top over night, yet the low lever circulation is really getting it's act together even without a top hat on.

As of now it's trying to redevelop some convection, it's heading due West into a more favorable environment. We may not have heard the last from this little system.

That's the most likely course. 99 has been able to get a bit of cover this morning. I'm guessing that the NHC will recognize it again later today.

Now a bit about 98..

It's getting a good amount of rotation in it this morning and has improved it's chances to 70%. I'd expect it to make it to TD status in the next 24 hours. It looks like the rotation is setting up at about 13N 37W.

98 is now Ophelia

Now that 98 is Ophelia, I guess her own thread is in order. As of now no one is expecting Ophelia to make it to hurricane status.

Invest 99 is back..

This little one is determined.. Now recognized again by the NHC it has been given a 0% chance of development, yet it's still buzzing along due West. It should pass by / over Guadeloupe in the next 24 hours.

Seems reasonable, but as per The Law of Unintended Consequences, even this below-the-fold approach might still provide sufficient encouragement to otherwise underachievers way way out there ... ...

Well, we ignored Ophelia long enough and she went away..
or at least dissipated for now, still quite a bit of activity in her remains.
Philippe looks like he want to turn around and go back to Africa..

It's her again...

Guess who's back?? Yep, they are issuing advisory's on Ophelia again. At 5 PM Tuesday Evening the NHC said she's again a tropical depression and expected to be back up to storm status by morning.

Philippe, still ignoring predictions.

While I'm at it.. I might mention that Philippe didn't turn around, and is still moving WNW way out in the Atlantic. Currently none of the models have projected that he will come anywhere close to the US, then again he has ignored all model projections thus far.

Philippe,, What are you doing?

Click for full size
Nahh this can't be Philippe!
Remember back when Philippe was predicted to not even get West of 30 Deg? Well he didn't listen and he's still not listening. So far it looks like Philippe is going to do what Philippe wants to do, when he wants to do it. To heck with the computer models!

So that brings the question, so we think they may be right when they are showing a continued Westward movement?

Philippe, now a strong tropical storm.

They think he'll go this way, maybe he will maybe he won't
Philippe is now at 70 MPH and going somewhere.. All the computers still have him doing an almost 180 in a few days.. But then again they had him doing that a week ago and he just didn't pay any attention to them.

And knocking on wood... there is nothing more trivial to talk about unless you know a fishing boat in the mid Atlantic....

Phillippe must be getting dizzy by now And spent

Thankfully itss been another So FL quiet seasom and much not even worthy of discussion.

Now Irene was but nothing since then. (BTW on that sig threatened us in KW a few years ago this time she didn't... for the laconic NE.

And big BOO to the meddia paying so much attention to NYC when OBVIOUSLY the didasters would be far more north but never a THOUGHT until NYC was a dud and far too lat for them.

Not there long enough to know what a major rain event in moutains might be.

Tropical Storm Rina

Click for full size
Now we have Rina, look like she's going to impale herself into the Yucatan and not cause any troubles further North..

Still there's always a chance she could escape from down there and come up this way.

As of now I'd consider her as "ignore for now"
