Re: [Malware] Google redirect infection. slowing down PC, please also, just tested again, and it seems to be possibly fixed. I disabled every possible plugin i had on firefox including:
Extensions:
Java Console 6.0.17 Java Console 6.0.22 Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.2.1 Skype extension 5.3.0.7550 XUL Cache 1.0 (why are there 3 of these?) -- I disabled all 3.
Plugins: Google Update 1.3.21.69 Java Deployment Toolkit Java Platform SE 6 U22 Microsoft Office 2010 (both 14.0.4730.1010 and 14.0.4761.1000) NVIDIA 3D Vission (7.17.12.5896 both streaming and standard plugins) Pando Web Plugin QuickTime Plug-in Windows Presentation Foundation 3.5.30729.1
ALL THIS, plus all of the previous scans, and a few system restarts and it seems to possibly be gone. I'll keep you posted if it comes back, but at least for now, it feels like I'm somewhat safe... I hope... thanks everyone. |

| reply to Kazeyonoma Thanks for posting. I'll consider this 'resolved' for the time. If the problem comes back, post here and we'll take a look.
FYI, redirects for Firefox only are unusual, That's what had me try the extensions. You can restart Firefox with all extensions disabled by going Firefox -> Help -> Restart with Extensions Disabled (for Firefox 4 and greater) |

 | thanks for all the help, does any of those extensions look suspicious to you though so i know what to look for next time? I'm going to uninstall/delete all of the cleaning utilities to free up my desktop as well.
Thanks again, and I'm running the latest iteration of firefox 3 not 4. =P |

| reply to Kazeyonoma The only questionable extension was the Pando one. The others are ok.
It's been so long since I used FF3 that I can't remember if there was an option to restart the browser with extensions disabled.
Give some consideration to upgrading to Firefox 7. It's different, but noticeably faster and more secure. -- When angry count four; when very angry, swear. Microsoft MVP/Consumer Security 2005-2011 Gladiator Security Forum |
