@rr.com

RR Wideband in SoCal is available.

So I have Wideband, I was initially on the 20/2 then I randomly called in they were like we have 30/5 and 50/5. I went with 30/5 and was blown away by speed, I then decided to upgrade to 50/5 like 4 days later lol.

Neverthless everything is beautifully fast, getting exactly 50mbit down and 5mbit upload speeds as advertised. Using a SBG6580 they provided. Price is $109.99 though

Wondering the same, because I would love to move to 30/5 from the 20/2 I currently have.

edit:

Just as I posted, I checked My Services page at the TWC page and logged in to find out new packages are available.

Road Runner Broadband Extreme 30/5 (not wideband)
Road Runner WideBand 50/5 (can't select it, but don't need it anyway)

Weird. I just logged into MyServices too and I can't find any place to change services. I then put my address in as though I was a new customer and it only says I have 20/2 available. Is this only for the LA area still?

Call to confirm. I just called today and mentioned if the new tiers were available and they had no clue. I was put on hold as they confirmed my address and I was allowed to order the tier.

I didn't place the order though since they were forcing a $50 installation fee and $4.95 monthly for the modem/wireless router. Placing the order online avoids those fees entirely.

I'm in beverly hills and its available and I ordered the 50/5. I didn't pay any installation fee as I already had the 20/2 which used the new DOCSIS 3.0 SBG6580 and I had already paid installation.

If you have a SBG6580 there shouldn't be any additional fees.

Disappointed. Already had a SB6120 modem and they wanted to install their own gateway. The gateway had wireless. I already had a wireless router that I was using with WPA2/certificate authentication for security reasons. I need external IP for my router for VPN connections and other networking which requires a routable IP.

I bought the router because I already use it in Florida with TWC and 30/5 works fine with my wireless router. Only way to get 30/5 in OC is with their equipment. Even though my modem supports they would not provision it.

Crappy TWC. One size does not fit all. Most people have their own wireless routers and do not want yours!

you can make the gateway just a modem by bridging it please read through the roadrunner threads and rethink your frustration.

You're in Northern California. I used the below link to log-in and add the Extreme package to my bill

You most likely need to use the below link

Yep, that's exactly the link I was using. The "for existing users" link seems to only let me build bundles and doesn't include the 20/2, let alone Wideband, while the new users link eventually gives me 20/2 as my maximum speed.

I'll call TWC and ask at some point, it's not a high priority at the moment.

Odd, guess you'll have no choice but to call. Hopefully it is in your area and TWC is just being lazy in updating the San Diego site.

I live in West LA and have spent hours on the phone with the idiots at Time Warner to ultimately find out I couldn't use the SB6120 either!!!!! so frustrating!!!! Finally the nicest guy at a TW call center in Ontario finally discovered they absolutely require the SBG6580...which is kinda bs because the SB6120 is docsis 3.0 compliant.

He assured me no monthly fees...just the $49.95 truck roll. Appointment scheduled for tomorrow...wish me luck! Btw, going from 20/2 to 30/5. And yes I will be disabling every possible additional function in this SBG6580 so that it acts strictly as a modem....already have a Cisco router, HP gigabit switch and 5th generation airport extreme for wireless - all far superior at performing their individual tasks.

I don't believe in all-in-one packages.........(for example the SBG6580 has a well known and documented apple compatibility issue...be sure to disable the ip spoofing thing). Why couldn't they have tested this to find out before forcing customers to use a device that's not compatible? Oh yea, its Time Warner....they are worse than some Government Agencies. They don't care even when they do know somethings wrong.

Some markets just do not allow customer owned modems, I know it sucks. When you get their garbage just set it up in bridge mode and use your own router.

yea however I have used my own modems for the last 6 years to avoid lease fees (sb4200/sb5100/sb5101/sb5120/sb6120). Now I want to upgrade to the RR Extreme....and suddenly they are going to force me to use their modem.

Got my SBG6580 installed today. Guy was super cool...no problems while he was here. Of course by the time he hit the end of the block and I began disabling the gateway crap I had problems. The modem would no longer get an IP address from TW cable....after 35 minutes on the phone with tech support she said they had the wrong codes in the boot config file. She fixed it...and now I'm back online. Although haven't tried going back to my Cisco router/airport extreme yet.....need to get some work done before I potentially knock the internet out again.
I get a solid 31/5 now...which is great.
I do plan on following these instructions later to the gateway into bridge mode...

I'll keep my low cost '10/1' package. Interesting that the '30Mbps' package is $0.01 less than the 20Mbps package.

The guy on the phone when I called today said "December". I'd take that with a huge grain of salt though, since they've been saying "in two months" for the past year or two.

Have you seen any Wideband/Extreme advertising? In my area at the end of August and end of September I got an ad stating "Upgrade Your Connection This Fall". Now at the end of
October I got a Brochure with new products listed (Wideband and Extreme) and it says they are raising rates in December and here is why. Still no Docsis 3 as far as I know but It has to be here by December for us if not earlier. But they will let you know when the time is getting closer.
