1 edit | Oh, well that means they maybe really dropping the ball for you. They did dropped the ball here, by putting Extreme available here on their site when it was not and they even put a Wideband billboard up way before it would even be available, but since replaced with a Whole House DVR one. Recently its a different story, they sent this (»dl.dropbox.com/u/38348368/timewa···mall.jpg) with our recent bill and I doubt its a mistake. »dl.dropbox.com/u/38348368/WBFall.jpg That is what they sent before October at the end of August and September. Heck I talked to sales and they even said a month to a month and a half.(Its been a month) ps. Don't forget each area is different as well. |

 | reply to cfrea What's funny is I did not have 30/5 until Verizon started putting FIOS in my area. Now I have 30/5 and could not be happier. I may goto Verizon Fios, maybe not. I live in San Bernardino and the 30/5 is pretty damn fast. The bill is roughly $65 a month and the comparable Fios Package 25/15 is about $85. I may keep TWC. 30/5 is fast enough for what I do (mainly game online Consoles & PC) and general PC stuff (Surf Web, E-Mail, Wireless Connection)
The Tech tried to say my Netgear 4000 (N750) was incompatible with their Modem/Router and I would NOT be able to use it. Well suffice it to say, he had Egg on His Face and it's working just GREAT. Loving this 30/5. I did NOT have to use Bridge MOde, just hooked up their Modem/Router to my Netgear and all worked kust fine. No special configurations or anything. |

 | reply to cfrea In Carlsbad, we are given the chance to go up to 50/5, which I of course did. Been running great! |

I'm thinking of getting the 50/5 wideband service in Los Angeles (Hollywood.) What's is the typical ping to the gateway? I'm currently getting around 6-7ms with my 6mbps DSL. Is the wideband better or worse latency-wise?
What's the overall reliability?
Thanks! |

 | Does no reply mean no problems with the service? I hope so. |

 | Still have decent speeds on the 'basic' 10/1 package here

 | reply to rv65 rv65 -- I'm in Scripps Ranch in San Diego. When I inquired about wideband a couple of months ago, they said it's only available in some parts of San Diego, and Scripps Ranch was not one of them. Which site can I go to see if it's available now? Thanks so much. |

 Midnight ping increase |
I'm thinking of getting the 50/5 wideband service in Los Angeles (Hollywood.) What's is the typical ping to the gateway? I'm currently getting around 6-7ms with my 6mbps DSL. Is the wideband better or worse latency-wise? Wideband is the same as standard cable internet, ping wise. My gateway pings are in the 9-11ms range, as they always have been since I originally got Road Runner in 2001.
In terms of your gaming needs, I suggest you stick with DSL for now. My speed and reliability have been great so far, but I've observed pings go up around 20ms midnight every night. You can see this pattern is reasonably widespread by looking at the RR_SOCAL line monitor

What's interesting is that the added latency seems fairly "controlled". It doesn't spike up like crazy as you'd normally see with a clogged pipe. It also doesn't seem to impact download speeds too much. I have no trouble pulling 50mbps during these periods. But I can clearly see the inflated pings, especially on nearby hosts. For example, pinging Verizon's DNS server (4.2.2.2) goes from 12ms to 35ms. -- AT&T U-Hearse - RIP Unlimited Internet 1995-2011 Rethink Billable.

| For me it's not bad, but I'm not much of a gamer. My old ISP had a 24ms gateway ping, so it seems like business as usual to me.
I know that slavaluk 's is largely interested in ping stability, so it may not be a good choice for him.
Another "new" problem I'm noticing is that my speeds slow down after about 48 hours until I reboot the SBG6580. I'll start seeing tests in the 30mbps range until i reboot. The prescribed fix for that around here is to bridge it and use your own router. I can do that, but I shouldn't have to. This modem's been around for a while, I can't believe Motorola would let something this glaring remain a bug for so long.

Wideband/Extreme are finally at my address. I chose Extreme for the time being since Wideband didn't seem to be worth the money (unless they up the upload to 10mbps or something). Unfortunately I'm not getting all of the upload that I'm paying for.
Could it be that I'm not getting all of my upload because only the downlink is bonded? |

djrobx join:2000-05-31 Valencia, CA kudos:1 | My upload isn't bonded either, but I'm getting the full 5 mbit. The one channel shows ATDMA 5120 Ksym/sec. -- AT&T U-Hearse - RIP Unlimited Internet 1995-2011 Rethink Billable.

Perhaps I need to post in the RR direct forum about this. |
