My guess is they changed the name because they're about to start offering service nationwide via an MVNO, probably on Sprint's network. If they do that, "South" wouldn't make much sense anymore.
But C Spire? Dear God, what were they thinking? I'm betting this was concocted by a senior exec, and no one else at the company has the balls to tell him it sucks.
