Re: SWTOR confirmed for Dec 20

Thanks,

Did a google images search (can only browse images search at work) of "SWTOR PAX 2010" and the screenshots look much better than the video I watched on youtube.

If it looks good, i will try it.

The game plan will then be to wait until the game has been out for about 1-3 weeks then, to see some latest and greatest videos of the graphics.

At this point I think the only thing that will dethrone WoW will be Titan

Will SWTOR have a free demo?

Not at release, no MMO has a free trial at launch

Dont get your panties in a bunch. The beta doesnt even have anti-aliasing turned on which will clean up the graphics a lot. Not one screenshot or video you've seen includes it.

I know what graphics look like with vs. without AA turned on, and the art and graphics engine aren't going to change in beta, other than tiny tweaks.

Other than some cutscenes and marketing videos I've seen nothing of this game that impresses me visually. It smacks of a game that sat in development for at least a year too long, and it wasn't that impressive to begin with.

Graphics are a personal choice, dont like it dont play it. I personally am fine with it and for anyone who has played WOW for any given time they arent any worse but are also less cartoony. *shrugs* Most games that look "beautiful" at launch...ie Aion, AOC were horrible for performance...no thanks.

Also, I believe I read somewhere (or it might be lack of sleep) that they also wanted to use WoW's strategy about graphics: have decent enough graphics in order to accommodate the largest configuration of PCs. Being able to play WoW on a five year old system allowed for and endeared more folks to play, simple as that.

The game will have its following and be successful, but it won't be a WoW killer. WoW will be its own killer simply due to time and possibly a new Blizzard game.

MMO's are alwas being claimed the next WoW killer but it can't happen, if the game s too different people don't like the unfamiliarit and say WoW is much better. If the game is similar in style then it is a 'WoW Clone' so there is no point in playing it.

I play Rift and love it, yet another game claimed to be a WoW killer and the staements above were used for tha too. Plenty of people left WoW to play it and still do, people like me who never liked WoW play it and love it. Then some left because 'WoW is better'. The power of opinion and points of view, we are all right and all wrong.

SWTOR will have the same kind of crowd playing, but in addition they, like Blizzard have the huge advantage of a loyal following. That is the main reason it will be a big success, just like Blizzard could do no wrong to so many fan, Bioware have their loyalists. So, the game will never fail.

Yup, this sums up my feeling as well. TOR will do very well but in a lot of ways you need to be somewhat of a Star Wars fan probably to really enjoy it. For me personally, if I had to choose between 2 identical games where the only difference was one had a Warcraft story/background and the other Star Wars I would choose Star Wars every time. I also like Rift and still have an active account I play if TOR beta isnt available. When TOR goes live I will be playing with a new guild of people who are all Star Wars fans and I can say that many of them got recent beta invites and have had a great time so far.

Agreed. I love me some Star Wars. I'm a huge fan of the films and loved the KOTOR games. This is probably my most anticipated game of the year.

I recently resubbed with Rift and have been having a blast levelling this week but I do think SW:TOR is going to be more fun for me just because of the Star Wars setting and the fact that Bioware is making the game. I love the idea of having questing feel more like a single player RPG with moral decisions and an overall plot.

I never got into WoW just because by the time I started noticing MMOs everyone had been playing for 6 years and I didn't feel like trying to catch up.

I think GW2 will be a huge hit too but I just cant stomach another dragon and elves game, just very tired of them even if GW2 is more next-gen then TOR. Im ready for some sci-fi and expect I will be playing TOR for at least a solid 2-3 years.

I played in the beta weekend this past weekend and I can say that it erased ANY skepticism I had and I now preordered becasue of it.

Take the immersive story of KOTOR and roll it into a social setting/no bounds world. Sound awesome? It is.

My brother played the BETA. I didn't have time. He loved it.

Will it keep us immersed for more than 30 days?

I hope so.

Beyond a doubt. The amount of story and what can come of it that I saw in a weekend... I barely touched the fingernail of a colossus of a body.

Supposedly for each class there is 200-something unique hours of story based gameplay. My time in the beta didn't exactly confirm that but I really wouldn't be surprised if it was true. I did only play one class (Consular) the entire duration of the beta (3 stages of it) and it was a very fun and enjoyable experience.

Whoa, 200 unique hours? That's more than any single player RPG that I know.

Did any of you beta testers try out the Imperial Agent? It is the class I'm most excited to play.

The more I read about SWTOR the more I'm looking forward to it. I'm having trouble deciding on class for my main though. Leaning toward smuggler but also interested in the consular, the Sith agent, the bounty hunter and the trooper. Decisions decisions.

A wide array of systems will be capable of running it in some capacity. It seems more CPU bound than GPU.

Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.0 GHz
2 GB of RAM if Vista / Windows 7
7800 or better, 256 MB VRAM, Shader 3.0 compatable.

I was running the beta on my rig at 1080 with what limited graphical options were available at the time maxed and getting 60+ FPS 75% of the time (as the Vsync worked when it felt like working) and only noticed large drops in areas where my CPU would get bogged down. And for reference that was a E8400 at 3.6 GHz.

I think if you have a Core 2 Duo Quad, like the old Q6600 you'll probably do better than on the actual Dual Core. If you have an i7 900 series, or Sandy Bridge based CPU you'll be laughably fine. I also would guess graphically anything over a GTX 460 is probably over kill. The GTX 285 did fine, the GTX 470 did fine, though I never thought to toss the old 8800 GT in there for shits and giggles. Hm.

Anyway, I would assume with something like that you'd be able to get an acceptable frame rate most of the time, likely with some setting tweaks.

the more I hear people "gush" about how great this game is, the more I become convinced that it is going to be a flop...

Most of the accolades this game has received has actually been from people who have had time with the game, such as during the various closed beta phases or at conventions and expos.

It doesn't reinvent the MMO wheel but it does provide a fun, engrossing, addictive experience with the level of quality in characters, worlds, and story that you expect from Bioware.

Different people will have different feelings on the game. I don't think it'll flop, but it I also don't believe it is going to be the "omgbestfuckinggameevar."

It is what it is, an WoW Influenced MMO with Bioware's magical touch set in a galaxy far, far away.

I think a big appeal will be friends playing together as a clan or whatever online. With various classes to cover all the needs of the group.

If they can get this interaction right then it may raise the entire experience up and really make it something special.
