Re: [OC] AMD Bulldozer overclocking preview.

I have my FX-8120 running smooth and steady at 4.5 Ghz, and I've had it up to just under 5 Ghz, I am loving it. For the fanboys, please leave the crap elsewhere, this is not the "I'm going to tell you how godlike my cpu maker's company is" forum Go with what you works for you, for me that's AMD, if you are into Intel, great. Remember, these are computer companies, NOT your family's honor

Edit-You forget too, Windows 7 is NOT optimized for mutli-core CPU's, Windows 8 is/will be.

I just setup my new FX-8150 and have had a time getting it stable and keeping cool. I wanted to compare results with you I'm using a Noctua D-14 and its no match for the heat of the bulldozer. In gaming the temps are fine because it never goes far above 48c but under prime95 it will hit 70c!!! I had to really up the vcore because I have two cores prone to failing prime. I'm running at 4400Mhz 1.45v at the moment until I can get settle on a water setup that does not have loud fans. It will go much higher but for temps sake I'm keeping 4400Mhz.

This CPU will throttle at 81c and seems to just fine to run into the 70c's and still be rock stable. This is very much not like any other AMD I have seen before. It was dangerous to keep one of the older AMD's in the 60's and they got really unstable. Can anyone confirm what the safe temps are?

For me optimization on Win8 won't matter. Bulldozer power consumption is just plain awful, especially when overclocked, and that eliminates them from consideration for me.
