2 edits | [OR] Things Not To Miss In Portland For anybody that lives up there, I'm planning a trip to Portland with a bunch of friends. Does anybody have any suggestions on things to see, can't miss items, how to get around?
Is the Widmer Brothers brewery worth going to? (for those who have been there)
I'll be there the 2nd weekend (Thursday night through Sunday) in January and staying somewhere downtown. Flying in, no car.

cause your newyears trip to Seattle and a slow drive home would be more efficient then the back and forth. (unless it different friends).
Portland has better light rail and (maybe) a better in city bus system (bring/rent a bike then you can go anywhere)

Can you give us an idea of what kinds of things you like to do? Portland has everything and anything. Public transportation is pretty decent, you can take the Maxline (lightrail) from the airport to downtown. For me, honestly, if I were coming in for 4 days, I'd get a rental car and have a little more freedom on transportation.
Tshirt is right. VooDoo is something every tourist should see.
Bring an umbrella and expect to get wet - it rains from November until April.
Also, Portland is a pretty big area. Where are you planning to stay?

Back to your original question about Widmer, I haven't been there, but how far wrong could a brewery tour go?
That said portland has plenty of breweries and a zillion brew pubs, so it's a great place for beer fans. |

I like to do the touristy things, I'm not there long so there isn't anything big that can be done. I want to avoid renting a car since I don't want it... Planning to stay somewhere in downtown Portland. I'll be there for a conference so maybe some things to do at night?

Sweet, forgot all about that. Some food trucks recently came down to San Francisco for the Food Truck Fair.
