White Sox Off-Season Thread

Might as well start now. Gonna be an interesting and active time.

Who is the new manager gonna be? Sandy? Terry? Someone else?

Tony LaRussa

NOOOOOO! AAAARGH!

Seriously, in spite of being Phil Rogers' secret lover, Tony isn't coming back here. Why should he cap his career with a difficult and chancy reprose with the Sox when he can finish as a bigger fish in a smaller (St. Louis) pond?

Plus the Dave Duncan - Don Cooper problem.

I hate Tony - a real jerk who happens to be a really good manager.

Coop signed a new four year contract, so I think that signaled the end to the LaRussa speculation. Kenny starting to use the word "rebuilding". Maybe Ryno on the southside?

For real? This has got to be the worst idea I've ever heard. He has no experience in the majors, definitely a really bad idea. Sound like Alomar from what KW was saying earlier

Ventura fits of who would be hired based on what was happening. Up and coming managers such as Martinez and Alomar would want total control of their coaching staff, no matter how good Cooper supposedly is. They also dont want to be stuck with a guy like Baines they have to carry. Finally a manager wants coaches that can be trusted and not in managements hip pocket.

Beside all this I like Ventura, a good man and one that should finally exudes class for this classless organization. And maybe with some better play from the players be a good manager.

I just heard Williams say that Ventura is a work in progress, it should take him 2-3 years to figure it all out. That means rebuild which shouldnt really shock anyone.

I would put it the other way round - KW knew he was hiring the guy months ago so the coach hiring were vetted. Furthermore, what makes you think another rookie manager (Alomar and Martinez) would have that control? Francona certainly but the other two no.

I have no idea what sort of manager he'll be. Less experience than Ozzie had coming in.

All the media types say Ventura is smart, decent, and knows the game, whatever that means.

Listening to KW now - sounds like Buddy Bell will be important in some way. No bench coach yet - we will see who it is. KW says it'll be announced tomorrow.

Another strange hire - the first one worked out OK. We'll see.

All managers like their underlings to be under their control. We will hopefully find out if Martinez or Alomar were even interviewed or even applied for the job. I doubt either, This appears this was a done deal by the puppet master many moons ago.

Another tidbit. How many seats would a Martinez or Alomar sell? None. They need whatever it takes when rebuilding, every dollar counts.

Pat - Cowley agrees with you.

That said, Cowley has been pushing the soap opera shit for years - doesn't make it true...

Jesse, Cowley kinda says what I was saying but does not carry out the conspiracy theory all the way to the top. Also Cowley is a Ozzie guy, I never really thought Oz was the type of guy that should be front and center in this organization. Way too many foul mouthed ignorant comments coming from his mouth, for the face of the organization in my eyes.

If we all find out that no one was interviewed or applied for the job, something stunk from the get go.

It was planned for months I think. For myself, I liked Ozzie's ignorant foul-mouthed statements. The entertainment value made it worth it.

As for the rest, as Cowley says, I am one of the people who couldn't care less about the interpersonal bullshit. But again, a certain amount of entertainment value out of it all - a bit like the Jerry Springer Show!

I am not saying ozwaldo didnt amuse me or was a really bad manager. He was just everything that is not needed as a spokesperson for a organization. I enjoy the off color comments as much as anyone but there is a place for that.

are you really PO'd they let Beurhle go? he got 4yrs. and what was it near $60mil? sorry, but for an innings eater, .500 pitcher, I'm not willing to do that. he can enjoy Oz and his new crew down in no mans land. I will definitely miss him as I thought him to be a class act, but not for $15mil a year.

not sure if anyone heard, but they are talking about Danks to the Yankees for 1 prospect, but KW is asking for 2. we will see how that pans out.

The Sox want 2 top farm hands, and they are suspicious of the Yankees PR machine. That deal ain't gonna happen.

I'm OK with the Beurhle move. It's the whole damn thing that pisses me off. How it's always about KW. And the Cubs are about to get exciting - might get Prince. Sox blew their shot at owning this town.
