| reply to Subaru Be careful. I track my electrical bill in detail, and the vast majority of the increases are not on the generation rate, but in all the other charges such as transmission, the taxes, fees, fees on taxes, and taxes on fees. Changing generation supplier will have zero affect on that, as it's the same charges for all of them.
I still use CL&P, but I'm on their time-of-day service plus variable rate plan based on system load. We save money on that plan versus any other supplier. - GA |

Or do your research of other providers listed on »www.wattsnewct.com/newsuppliers.html
Most of them probably have an online form to fill out once you find what provider you want to change to.

Qixotl join:2002-02-08 New Milford, CT | reply to Subaru Just an FYI. Both CL&P and UI will have large generation rate decreases come January 1st, 2012. I would expect some of the competition will also lower their rates around that time, so rechecking rates around late December might be a good idea. A handful of companies are already a tick below CL&P's upcoming rate.

| reply to Qixotl What concerns me is the transport rates and additional fees, will they go down or will they be restructured and the prices will end up staying the same? Thats one part of the bill that has always toasted my cookies paying to have the electric delivered to you. |

| reply to Subaru As I noted above, CL&P has a "Variable rate" plan where you get a lower rate "off peak" (8PM-non weekdays, all day weekends) and a higher rate "on peak". Depending on your usage, it may average less than the standard rate.
In addition, they also offer "variable peak pricing" which varies the daily rate accordingly to load (I've been paying ~5.5c this year). Effective Jan 1 that's going to a variable rate off-peak too.
In the end, all you're changing by changing "providers" is the generation rates; all other charges are the same for everyone.
