 | [modem/router] Can't ping router....only get Fairpoint modem Hi all, When I try to bring up my Linksys router on 192.168.1.1 I get the Fairpoint Westell modem interface. Are the modem and Linksys sharing that IP? How can I get into my Linksys admin settings?? Must be something simple right in front of me but I can't figure it out. Thanks! -- 74West/1250Mhz/Proplan/.76m dish/HNS7000S/LinksysWRT54G/WindowsXPsp3 |

Telcos generally issue CPE with IP addresses overlapping the defaults for consumer grade NAT routers. The router can be configured away from the CPE IP address. I usually recommend changing the router IP address to any IP address other than 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.1.1. I suggest using any value from at least 2, up to the maximum of 255 for the third octet.
In the rare event where the issue CPE uses some other value that 0, or 1 in the third octet, use a different value on the LAN side than the CPE is using. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
