- a general intro to NSM, basic operation, navigating the GUI and areas, tips and tricks, etc. I'm
open to hardcopy, web or PDF formats.
- any sort of firewall rule tester that would let you put in a sort of "if this and that, yes or no."
I know you COULD do a manual search of the policies, but to do that on multiple firewalls is a real PITA,
and NSM is no speed demon for searching logs.

| Juniper (typically a vendor of business firewalls, routers, and switches) is not a likely topic of discussion in this web site. And the Netscreen Security Manager (NSM) for managing Juniper Netscreen firewalls (and some SRX firewalls) is an even less-likely topic for discussion here.
Firewall rule tester? Heh, heh, that's what keeps companies like Tufin in business. NSM is a fine method for having one GUI for managing a bunch of firewalls, but the definition of 'management' has some limitations. If you use Checkpoint or Cisco, you'll find a similar dearth of useful utilities to maintain a trim policy without excessive duplications and redundancies. |
