[ALL] 2Wire modem very unstable!!! Help needed...

Hi,
I have problem with my 2wire modem. It becomes unusable (i.e. web browsing) with bittorrent on.
Everytime I start download something (even with low download/upload rate), every other computers in my house becomes unable to browse internet.

Does anyone have the same problem? If so, do you have any solution?
Is it possible to attach another router to 2wire modem and use that instead?

What is your upstream speed capped at on your torrent program and what internet package / speed do you have with Telus?

Wasn't there a TCP/IP connection limit issue with the 2Wire?

You may be right - the OP should really look into the number of simultaneous connections allowed by his torrent program. Try something in the 300 range first, and if that doesn't work then 100-150. See if that helps. It's also useful to limit the maximum upload rate of the torrent program to about 85-90% of your tested connection speed. This will actually *improve* your torrent speeds, as you won't be saturating your upload pipe and delaying acknowledges.

In my experience the 2wire unit is a decent modem but not a good router.

Indeed, it does have problems with multiple concurrent connections at high data transfer rates. I even had problems with Steam causing the 2wire to slow to a crawl.
