Steve Jobs - has died

I know this has nothing to do with Chicago but very important to all of us...

Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, has died, according to the company. RIP, Steve...

That's too bad. Surprised he was only 56. Too young but i know he's been sick.

My supervisor was in his mid 40s when he got pancreatic cancer. He died about 2 years after diagnosis. There is no cure. You can throw as much money at it as Mr Jobs had and it will get you anyway. There is no real remission. It is one of the toughest cancers to deal with for researchers, because no one can point to a single big causative factor. You can say a heavy smoker got lung cancer probably because of smoking. You cannot do that with pancreatic. That is one reason I hate those "Cancer Treatment Centers of America" ads. They are lying about the real survival situation, which is very low.

I did not like much of what Mr Jobs created. It was more about looks than function with him. But I am sorry he got this type of cancer and died from it. It really hurts to be told that unlike lung, breast, or stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer survival rates have had no significant advances in decades.

Good points re. Cancer Treatment Centers of America. I knew a guy who died three weeks after diagnosis. It's pretty deadly.

Agree with your comments on Apple stuff too (by and large).

Scary... proof that all the money in the world can't save oneself. I never really was into the latest "Apple" craze. I never owned an iPod iPad, or iProduct of any sort. Last thing was a PowerPC running Mac 7.5.3
Still, that man really knew how to lead a company and turn it into a global name.
Tailwinds and blue skies, Steve.

I have a Mac Mini because I have to do Mac stuff occasionally, and it's good to have one, but I never understood why folks liked them so much - maybe it's having someone (Steve Jobs) telling them what to do or not to do. SOrt of the infantization of IT.

I never heard it is, which doesn't mean it ain't, but I doubt it is.

My Mom died from leukemia and my Dad from lung cancer and AFAIK nobody else in the extended family ever had either.

My Dad had smoked - quit in 1979 - and nobody has a clue what happened with my Mom. So who knows? My Dad was watching the Bears game when he went (just this last Sunday) and we figure it was the Bears line play that finally sent him to the place where he can watch the Sid Luckman Bears over and over again.

Something gonna get all of us, but hopefully that's not what's gonna get you .

I have a friend who, so far, has beat pancreatic cancer. It's been at least 10 years since she's had any treatment for it, and so far, so good. The medical establishment didn't give her much hope for survival, but she fought it off with macrobiotic diets, shark cartilage, and every other oddball treatment under sun you have ever heard of.

Unfortunately, pancreatic and liver cancer got my mother @ 44 years of age. It was the fifth leading killer back in 1987.
