just got 15/2 and now it's SLOWER?!so i upgraded to 15/2 internet 3 days ago. all of a sudden i'm getting worse bandwidth and >41ms ping times to anything west of chicago. this is worse than pinging the UK from atlanta over the atlantic ocean.
using the speedtest shows i'm getting ~500kbps to chicago. seriously, it's slower than my at&t cellular modem connection.
i ran the tests at 2:30 AM so it's certainly does not involve any congestion.
what has been going on? |

just tried again on wowway's speedtest. results are not great:
Download Speed: 3.653 Mbps (3653 kb/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 1.17 Mbps (1170 kb/sec transfer rate) Thu Oct 6 02:43:45 2011
this pitiful performance is within wow's own network at 2:43 AM. WOW this sucks. |

There was maintenance being performed on a fiber connection last night, but it was not expected to cause any customer impact. Are you still experiencing this issue now? If so, can you check you modem status page (192.168.100.1) and post the levels and other stats so I can look for a problem there? |

the only thing I see there that might be borderline is the transit power level at 51. That's within spec, but still a little higher than I normally like to see. Everything appears to be okay from here though (I was able to find your account from that information). Do you have a router hooked up? If so, have you tried bypassing the router and running speed tests that way? |

yes. i've been running tests directly from the modem. same issues. it's especially horrible going to any server in dallas or the west coast. 300kbps was the highest i saw with ping times of around 90ms.
i'm going to go grab another modem from your local wowway office and see if that helps. thanks again. |

I am not getting consistent speeds as well. Streaming videos are not and buffering way to often. As it seems we live in the same location and seeing varying speeds. 8 mbps down the wow speed site, but varying speeds on speakeasy from 1 mbps to 8 mbps. |

well, i got back from swapping cable modems from the madison heights office. i discovered that i had to call in WOW support to get the new modem provisioned, or so it was claimed. initially after i had plugged in the replacement modem i wasn't getting an address from it at all. i discovered, after 45 minutes with WOW support that the modem had not been provisioned properly.
so after a few minutes the modem was provisioned and i am now getting nearly 15mbps consistently to speakeasy servers in dallas, seattle, and palo alto. i haven't tested youtube or netflix, but ping times were also reduced to the west coast from 87ms to sub 40ms.
the major difference for me, outside of the replacement cable modem, was that the modem's IP went from a 69.xxx.xxx.xxx to a 24.xxx.xxx.xxx. i wonder if moving to a different network segment (and possibly different switch or router in the wowway NOC) made all the difference. |

Jump into your router settings and change the MAC address and restart the modem and try to get a 69. IP again and you'll find out. |

Are we supposed to believe that the modem you had couldn't route 15 Mbps? Is your new modem DOCSIS 3.0 and using channel bonding? |
