"We have full control of the satellite and it is in good health and responding to commands. Work to restore service to customers is underway. We currently estimate that all services will be restored between 20:00 and 22:00 EDT." They will provide SSi with another update at this time and we will update this page to reflect the new status!

 | reply to mikefxu That is one odd beam map
It is 100% WB1 beam map, ignore the colors Anik beams are offset a few degrees from WB1
All Anik beams are offline now |

 | From the posted map, it explains "why" I could not get on earlier Thursday (I live in rural SW Arizona). I read where parts of Canada were hit by the same satellite problem too.
Earlier Thursday, I received an automated call by phone from WildBlue that one of their satellites was down and if I didn't have any service, this was why. They hoped to have the problems fixed later Thursday, if not tomorrow (meaning Friday).
Apparently the satellite problem has been fixed. But for how long, I don't know as I didn't try going online until 1:45 am Friday morning. |

 | reply to mikefxu Where does the map come from. I'm in Massachusetts (looks like Beam 117) and my service was out (got the call from WB also yesterday). Also I recall a fiber cut in Laredo which took us out for 2 days a couple of years ago. So it looks like the satellite assignments aren't completely accurate - perhaps the gateway changed in the last couple of years. |

1 edit | reply to mikefxu My Internet uses Anik-F2 and was not working yesterday, October 6, 2011, from 12:45 pm to 10:30 pm MST when I stopped trying. The Rx light on my WB modem was stuck on 1 blink as would be expected if the satellite signal is not present.
Although probably unrelated beginning yesterday at about 2 pm MST my computer began pausing intermittently. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway |

 | reply to mikefxu NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center: quote: 2011-10-06 17:08 Calm for the foreseeable future?
The geomagnetic storm from yesterday never amounted to anything more than a minor (G1) storm and no impacts to users were reported to NOAA. Space Weather is calm and is expected to remain calm for the next few days, at least.

1 edit | reply to mikefxu Telesat says software error triggered satellite shutdown, CTV News, Oct. 7, 2011:
quote: Telesat says a software error that occurred during a routine manoeuvre triggered its Anik F2 satellite to shut down, causing many Canadians to lose communications for much of Thursday.
The Ottawa-based owner and operator of the communications spacecraft said Friday that the error appears to have been caused by a software update recently provided by the satellite manufacturer that was not re-loaded onto the satellite.
The satellite put itself in "safe mode" and pointed towards the sun to charge its batteries until the repair prompted it to turn around and resume its transmissions.
Ah, blame Boeing....

 | reply to mikefxu Anik F2 and WB-1 are different birds that use different polarities, which means, users can not switch back/forth between them.
I've seen detail maps of both birds, but here is a basic map of WB-1:
Those three digit numbers on map you provided means that is WB-1 bird.
Now, when I went to the site you listed, I found this Anik F2 map here,
»www.wildbluetools.com/content/de···2010.png
and it shows the two number classification. And here is a map for WB-1, which shows three number classification:
As based upon map for Anik F2 for my beam, it appears Wildblue has shifted my beam pattern (or they sorted out where my beam was most effective, and shifted users to different beams). |

The maps I cited were "reclassification" maps, meaning they adjusted where users were placed. |
