 | Mobile phone scam/spam? Got this voicemail
hello i am mr**** from **** courier service. we have a certified letter we are trying to deliver and were wondering when you will be home to deliver it. please call us at 1800 ********* to schedule a time.
has anyone ever heard of this scam? im trying to figure it out and all i can think of is them wanting to check out my place to rob it? Im at a loss. What do you guys think? |

 | Find the courier service from a phone book and call it. Don't answer the other. If it's that important, someone reputable will call in person so you can check out ID. Especially certified mail. Didn't the mailman leave a delivery notice for it?
I just got a stupid email about a ticket from the NY State cops. Haven't driven in that region for over 10 years. (Didn't open it - JHD'd it) |

The basic premise of the call is bogus, because only the USPS handles "certified letters". Legitimate courier services do not use that term, nor are they likely to call until at least one delivery has already been attempted.

 | reply to LocutusBorg I did not keep the message. When i heard "certified letter", i laughed my ass off and thought to myself that this is a new one. Only USPS delivers certified letters. they would not call and they would not ever give it to a courier service.
the weird thing was when i looked at my vmail screen there was a number that was not 1-800, but on my missed calls screen it says unknown |

| reply to LocutusBorg I don't think anyone here can help you figure this out if you are unwilling to post the 800# and company name.

You put stars instead of the number. Can't very well tell you what their 'endgame' is without pertinent info. |

 | i put stars because i did not know the number? |

 | reply to LocutusBorg i agree with carpetshark3. check on it first before doing anything.. could be real..but scams sound real nowadays, too. so beware.. |

1 edit | reply to LocutusBorg i did get hmmm..almost similar call before, told me i got a package to claim and made go through a series of steps like calling a number to confirm that I am expecting it, provide any identification like my SSN, and a lot more steps... if i weren't aware. i would have fallen for the trick. but i've read too much from ******** and I'm not gonna buy scam tactics any time. and guess what, when i look the phone number up, it's been reported at the site 9 times for scamming. |

 | I don't use voicemail. I had enough with VM at work and it's my phone. The phone does log missed calls. If you read the log, it's easy enough to search the number. If the number is in your phone book, the log will tell you who. If it's an 800 number you can look it up. Or go use a pay phone and call it if looks suspicious and you are curious. I refuse to take calls from a blocked/private number.
I'm the main account holder, so I get the calls. I'll see a number, hit ignore, and they never leave a VM anyway. The phone lets you know you have a voicemail. I think TMO eventually deletes vm if they are ignored long enough. |
