Harware vpn setup question

Hi,

I need to know if it's possible to setup a VPN the following way and how it would be done:

I have a router, let's call it the primary router, with which I connect normally to the internet and I need to hook up a secondary router with hardware VPN capabilities to the primary one, so that only this secondary router connects to the internet thru a VPN tunnel. So what I would end up with is a primary router to which I can hook up anything that needs to connect to the internet thru a normal connection and a secondary router to which I can hook up anything that needs to connect to the Internet thru the VPN.

¿Is this even possible?, ¿can it be done using PPTP or would it have to be with IPSec?

I have a monthly subscription to a HideIP uk VPN account, ¿could it be setup using this account?

Hope someone can give me a hand.

Best regards.

Domingo.

What you want to do is possible but the router hardware at both ends must support it.

Here is a link for some Tutorials (for boxes using DD-WRT firmware) that you still might find of interest. The basic concept is the same between routers and should point you to what you need to know.

Check out the EoIP under the basic and the various OpenVPN choices under the Advanced menu.

'Yes' to the first. 'Depends' to the second

'Depends' on how HideIP works. Do they provide any sort of links / documentation how to setup
a connection to them?

If you're looking to connect to HideIP THEN get a VPN, I'd find the documentation from HideIP
first before deciding on the actual equipment. If it's the other way around, I'd focus on what
actual equipment you want to get first.

Good reply Hellfire, I missed the part about using the HideIP VPN account. I believe the DD-WRT examples are mostly for direct router to router VPN or PC to router with out the third party VPN host being involved.

Thanks Hellfire,

HideIP do have documentation on their website, but I think it's all for setting up connections on a PC. I'll check it all out to make sure and maybe try and contact them.
Still, I'm not going to let the HideIP account be a problem, If I can't use it i'll just look for another one that works.

Presuming this is what you're looking at Domingo.
Looks like there's guides for DD-WRT setup, of which best of luck reading over and setting them up.
