TrimlinePremium join:2004-10-24 Windermere, FL | Any testimonials on the WNDR4500 900? Currently have a WNDR3700 that I am quite happy with except for the USB HP 2TB drive attached (have to perform a quick detach for it to function properly).
Wondering if upgrading would be more fruitful. |

 | I have been looking for the same, but all I have come across is that the wireless is weaker on the 2.4 band and there are a few bugs.
For close to $200 for the new one I would say stick with what works for you now. See if they update it in six months. |

| FYI, I found a fairly good comparison with the WNDR3700 and a review of the WNDR4500 here:

 | I have the WNDR4500 and my experience with the 2.4 Ghz band is completely different than the reviewer's. I am getting excellent range. Other routers I've tried would never give me a good signal to my basement. With the WNDR4500 on the 2.4 Ghz band, I am get 5 bars down my basement now. The 5 Ghz band is okay but not as good performance as the 2.4, in my experience anyway. |

 | reply to Trimline Direct opposite as the above 2 people a large file transfered between my toshiba notebook M645 I5 and my PC I 7 yields 1.9 -2.0 mb/s on 2.4 and 17-18 on 5mhz no comparison. Similar response to my Samsung TV's at 5Mhz I can stream 1080 mkvs to both on 2.4 starting the second causes them both to breakup. I'm streaming from my PC to WDTV live box's. I'm somewhat disappointed in its overall performance pissed at the 2.4 but question ig I need 2.4 anymore. |

Rhyalus join:2008-06-28 Mount Sinai, NY | reply to Trimline I have had this router for less than a week, but the performance is great. The 2.4 GHz range is better than other routers I have had, and I have not had a single drop.
Speedtest and pings are perfect.
2GHz and 5GHz both work fine, and I have a DAP 1522 bridge on the 5GHz side for the entertainment center.
Some of the features are still a bit "twitchy" though - like the guest network and the readyshare features. Not in that they stop working but rather that the functionality is more limited than I would have hoped.
Check the reviews on Amazon and Newegg.

 | reply to Trimline bought 4500 from newegg, power light blinked green slowly, can't log in. RMAed. |

 | reply to Trimline 2.4G range is better here than WNDR4000 and 3700 v2/v1. |

 | reply to Trimline I have had my WNDR4500 900 for a couple weeks now and am very impressed with it. great range, virtually no speed loss at my wireless laptop vs. over coming straight out of the modem (never had that before!) and it has been rock solid even though I have several relatively strong networks close enough to show up on all site surveys. Setup was a breeze, remote control of the WNDR4500 from my laptop is super easy (I don't have to run upstairs to change anything) and I like all the little lights when I go in the office in the dark! |

 | reply to JJames Same here. Great router! Everything works perfectly. |

I have a WNDR3700v2 and have been thinking about upgrading, but I'm not so sure about the WNDR4500. I really don't get why Netgear decided to put more features in the slower WNDR3800. |

 | reply to rhdcheme I've had it since Monday and it's been great so far. |

 | reply to Trimline Working great for me, I steered clear of buying it from a low balling reseller as the posts i saw from owners that saved a few bucks seemed to have more issues than its worth. I've a WRT54G since v1 and have multiple models but I got sick of having to touch it whenever I slapped on Sveasoft or other software. I have FIOS 35MB/35MB so I just used the Westell that came with it. But I finally had enough of the throttling. I pulled out an old wrt54g and saw that the wifi was way faster than using the Verizon box. So instead of using the old standby I decided to see what was out on the market that was fun and fast. After weeks of research and i was in class for my Microsoft & Cisco certs, asked around and found that this was the one on everyones radar to buy to play with. I havent looked back since plus my iPad and laptops with 5Ghz like the uncongested spectrum. All my tested show that the router is really doing a great job and handling the traffic sooo much better than the verizon router on its own. |

Well, I got a hold of one on sale. I need to agree with you on the 2.4 band. The WNDR3700 has a far superior range than the WNDR4500, at least in my home. As an example, my HTPC located in the family room on the other side of the house, consistently receives a 150/300 wireless connection. With the 4500, the HTPC was getting only 56-72/150 connection. Movies from the attached USB server where lagged when using the 4500.
There are a lot of nice features on this router and I was hoping it would perform as well or better than the 3700. For now, it's my backup router. I'll stay posted on firmware updates that specifically address the range factor and will retry the installation again.
Thanks to all for replying. There is a lot of good information here. |

To get the performance out of this router one must use a complimentary 3by3 "Client" otherwise the router will performe erratically. People who have 1by1 or 1by2 or 2by2 or 2by3 "Clients" will not be ecstatic The Intel 6300 works nicely with the 4500 -- Trendnet also make a 3by3 client that works well with the 4500. -- David Mozer IT-Expert on Call Information Technology for Home and Business |

 | Netgear is releasing the N900 adapter, WNDR4100, soon. Anyone know approximately when? |
|
 | reply to Trimline yeah mine works great too. i could never download a 1080p video on youtube from my room before, let alone way before the vid even ended. but i'm still trying to find out what the optimal settings are to prioritize my xbox. i'm used to using dlinks and i pretty much mastered my dir-855 and dgl-4500. netgear is very different for those who don't know. still pretty simple though. |
