Shaw's a monopoly
When you look at it Shaw's basically a Cable TV monopoly in Western Canada. Until the CRTC let telephone companies provide IPTV in 2006, Shaw had exclusivity on Cable since the 1960's. Shaw should be fined in volation of anti-trust laws.

If they were a monopoly, then TV listings wouldn't have had to break it down by Rogers and Shaw listings in mutually served areas in the 80s (Calgary, as an example), and if they were a larger monopoly, then they wouldn't have had to buy out countless smaller, incumbent cable providers throughout Alberta and BC over the years, and then still have to upgrade those networks to be at the same capacity levels as what Shaw's home footprint could allow for.
It would be like claiming that Telus was a monopoly on phone service, despite there being providers such as Sprint in the same served locations.
And you can't even say "western Canada" because that typically includes Saskatchewan, which has Sasktel to provide all the services as well, and is Crown-owned, so it's supplied and funded by the government, and is often quite a bit cheaper (Shaw has very limited penetration in Saskatchewan due to this).

YOU FORGOT ACCESS COMM WHICH IS A REGINA COOPERATIVE. SO SASKTEL HAVE ANOTHER COMPETITOR. SO DON'T KNOW THE PENTRATION FOR THAT COMPANY.
HOW DOES SASKTEL FUNDED BY THE GOVERNMENT, I KNOW THEY INVESTED 660 MILL FOR THE FIBRE TO THE PREM THIS YEAR, WHICH IS ALOT OF MONEY TO TAKE IN FOR SUCH A HUGE PROJECT.
WELL MAYBE SHAW IS A MONOPLIOLY BUT THAT CHANGED OVER THE YEARS, IN WESTERN CANADA, IT PRETTY MUCH, THERE IS NOVUS, TELUS, WE ALL KNOW BOUT, SHAW DIRECT AND BELL TV, SATELITE SERVICE, SO YEAH, I KNOW IT'S NOT MUCH BUT WHO KNOWS LATER DOWN WE MIGHT EVEN FIOS FROM VERZXION, LOL WISHFUL THINKING, WHO KNOWS WHAT FUTURE HOLDS.

Well, for a very long time in BC/Alberta, the only company from which you could receive cable TV, or any subscription TV before satelitte, was Shaw, so I find it hard believing Shaw was not a monopoly.
Although Telus has made some in-roads in the cable market, Shaw continues to abuse it dominant market position by delaying the cancellation of service for customers who have switched to Optik TV.
The spineless CRTC should be smacking Shaw with million dollar fines for these anti-competitive tactics.
Optik TV is making a significant impact on Shaw. 500 employees were laid off from the Shaw Communications division. Shaw closed several warehouses. This has nothing to do with Shaw Media as warehouses are for the Shaw Communications division.
