Non-Tropical Low Florida East Coast

Note the bouy winds speeds
I'm going to give this one it's own topic since I'm thinking it's going to be given tropical storm status at the next up date.

The winds already qualify, with a NOAA buoy off of Cape Canaveral already recording gusts of 63 MPH and sustained winds of 47. Also radar is showing a good rotation pattern developing, with Satellite showing a rapid intensification of convection near the center.

It's located East of the cape, moving Northward along the coast. It's currently showing a 30% chance of becoming a tropical storm on the NHC site.

Here in St Augustine we are getting some 30+ MPH winds and really high tides along with rain. Nothing real exciting yet, it did blow over a camper on I-95 a bit ago. Lights are blinking but that's normal for a Nor-Easter.

I would have posted sooner but I've been out of range of the Net most of the weekend doing a medical Standby for the Palatka Fall Bluegrass festival Way out in the woods..

Re: Invest 93 East Coast of Florida..

This is now currently being designated as a NON-Tropical Gale center.. Minimum pressure was recorded down to 999mB by the NOAA Weather buoy 41009. Ave wind speed maxed out at 52, with gusts to 67MPH

Knock Knock
As of this morning the center of circulation has moved on shore and is working it's way across the state. Quite a few Tornado warnings are coming out of it. Lots of trees down, and many scattered power outages.

This system went into a large circulation area, as of now it's looking like it wants to tighten up the center in the area of Newberry.

Was this actually a tropical storm?

There is quite a bit of debate on that.. There have been rumblings that in the post storm review this might even get classed as a cat 1 Hurricane.

It really doesn't matter if it does get storm status. I really think had it stayed out over the Atlantic for a few more hours there would have been no question.

The NHC is saying that this one lacked a warm core required to be tropical. Yet other sources are citing a 4 deg increase in temp as the storm center approached.

Who knows.. I certainly don't. It did appear it was going tropical to me, but I'm not qualified (nor do I have the time or desire to become qualified) to make the "Official" decision.

Still it was quite an interesting storm and did do what you would expect a strong tropical storm to do. Power companies are still restoring power to some customers.
