[Anime] sorta SPOILERS Gundam Age

Haven't made the "currently watching" seasonal topic yet, because I'm lazy, but this one in particular bears mentioning on its own, as I'd been waiting for a new Gundam series.......

Anyone seen this yet?

Simply put, I hate it. Only thing worse than angst-ridden teenagers piloting Gundams, is KIDS piloting Gundams! Yeah, the main character is SUPPOSED to be 14 I think, but he looks/sounds 10. He's annoying as hell, and the characters thus far are stale and boring.

Kid helps build the Gundam after his mother is killed in an UE (Unknown Enemy) attack! Sure, we're not expected to think a 7 year old would be quite scarred from watching his mother burn to death, but hey, he gets his little AGE device, that he amazingly uses to build the Gundam. Why HE, between the ages of 7-14 could do what previous generations of the family COULDN'T, is conveniently ignored.

Now, the 14 that looks like 10 year old Flit - Heero, Setsuna, Shinn, Kira, Amuro..... cool names, but FLIT???? Ah screw it, his name sucks as much as the premise of this show does...... anyway, the now 14 year old is running around claiming the aliens are gonna attack again, and OF COURSE no one believes him. Seems he can be a genius in designing mobile suits, but stupid about plot devices...... Images of Gaiking ran through my head, as I recalled that Daiya ran around his village claiming the aliens were coming and no one believed him..... wait, that show was GOOD.... erm. Anyway, lo and behold, THE ALIENS ATTACK!!!! Naturally, the aliens that look like gargoyles make short work of the defense forces, and basically just blowing everything up, including the new Genoace mobile suits. Ah gotta love the fodder. Hell, the "ACE" pilot can't even make it out of the hangar, pussy. Well, you know the drill. Kid "HAS TO DO SOMETHING!" and decides he can pilot the Gundam, that just so happens to be ready, but not tested..... So off our hero goes, and beats one of the aliens. (how about that?) The remaining aliens, after blowing up the defeated unit, begin attacking the outside of the colony.... oh noes!

The end. Well, of episode 1 anyway.

I REALLY wanted to like this, I really did, but this is so bad, I don't even know if I can give it another shot. I know I will, because I'm curious how the Gundam "Evolves" but seriously, it annoys on so many levels......

There you go, quick rundown on one big disappointment. YMMV of course, but don't say I didn't warn ya.

While I mostly agree with you, I think the reason Flit built the Gundam and not a previous generation is due to need - it's not that they COULDN'T build it, it's just that it would of been a HUGE investment of time, energy, and $$$$ for something that was not needed. Remember, they HAD built one at one time in the past. One could even speculate that Flit's home colony was attacked because his parents started building one.

But anyway, yeah, it's bad. I think they are seriously confused about who their target audience is supposed to be. I know it's different over in Japan and whatnot, but I think even over there there's too much blood for it to be shown to the age group which might actually enjoy it. There's no way ep. 3 will ever be shown on tv over here without serious edits, one of which would introduce a glaring plot hole (heh, would blend right in I guess). The whole "Unknown Enemy" thing is so convenient as they're "probably aliens" or at least autonomous/remote mechs which allows Flit to keep his hands clean. But then again it's so confused and aimless I could see them pulling a Martian Successor Nadesico...

Anyway, I thought ep. 2 was better, but then it nosedived horribly in ep. 3. Right now I'm rating it somewhere between G-Gundam and Superior Defender Gundamforce, though much closer to Gundamforce. Actually, it might be even worse then Gundamforce as at least Gundamforce was a riot due to how bad it was. AGE doesn't even have that going for it

So yeah. Guilty Crown, Phi Brain, Hunter x Hunter, and Persona 4 are all good. Gundam AGE sucks ass.

Well, at least someone else has finally seen this and commented. I thought either it was so horrid no one watched it, or just didn't want to comment here and agree/disagree with me.

Now, I've begrudgingly continued to watch this, and I continue to not like it. Episode 2 DID suck IMO. Let's start with the biggest problem I had with it all. Flit is moving in the colony, as the evacuation is going on. There's a huge hole RIGHT NEXT to where this girl is standing, and somehow, isn't sucked out into space - though some giant billboard IS, and nearly smacks her as it flies by. So either she weighs a LOT more than a billboard, or something ain't right here. Then we add the convenient dynamic do-all plot device that can somehow create weapons that can one-shot the enemy. Let's add to this that Flit CREATED this thing, but somehow forgot he had it! Durrrr......

Episode 3 was awfully slow for something that should've been faster paced. I don't recall anything being so bad as to needed edits if shown here. There was far worse stuff in SEED and 00. It's just that How Flit goes from being super-ace shot to durrrr in 2 seconds is what annoys me most about him.

If only that gargoyle had just shot the ship it had dead to rights then this whole thing would be over. LOL!

I never said it didn't. I just said it was better then ep. 1, which isn't saying much really.

At this point I think my brain's shutting down in self defence when I watch this. I vaguely remember several other issues like that billboard, but then *click* oooohhhhhh purdy colors!! Right now I think the part that's bothering me the most is at the beginning of ep. 1: when Flit "cracks the code" and figures out that they were going to be attacked next, does he tell A) the commander of the colony's armed forces and his guardian, who is probably the only guy who'll both believe him and has the power to do something about it, B) one of the other guys he works with to build the military hardware, or C) the 1st period teacher at his middle school with whom he does not get along with? He has his proof in his hand as he runs right by all 3 of them XD

It's not that it needs edits per say, it's that it needs them if it's to be shown on tv during a time block that kids in the target age group would actually watch. SEED and 00 were not targeting children. Remember, blood's not allowed on tv and Commander Bruzar leaves quite a bit in ep 3. I actually remember when they edited the blood out of Gundam Wing for the first (day time) Cartoon Network showing...

Edit: added some stuff

WHY do I keep watching this???? Holy hell is it awful. Just when I think it might get better, they go and make it WORSE.....

4 episodes in, and I STILL don't know what the plot/point is supposed to be.

As a side, I started rewatching SEED over the weekend. Damn I love that series. Just hit the big ep 29/30 point which is one of the best plot points in a Gundam series. The Kira/Athrun fight is fantastic.

I just finished the episode (13) where Amuro Flit masters his Newtype X-Rounder abilities and wipes out a bunch of Zeon UE mobile suits giving the Minerva Diva enough time to fire the "Tannhäuser" Positron Photon Blaster Cannon. At this point the only question I have is how will Amuro Flit kill Lalah Yurin while she's trying to stop the fight and how many episodes will it take him to get over it?

The series is actually enjoyable though once you a) realize it's just a kids show and b) shut your brain off while watching it

That question is partly answered in episode 14..... VERY anti-climatic if you ask me, and it makes no sense whatsoever. Nice to finally get some action though.

Weeelllll, I'm still watching it, but it's just god-awful. I WANT Flit to get shot down, he's annoying as hell, and the plots of the story make no sense.

"I" want to know how many episodes before the Diva transforms into a giant Gundam, it's only LOOKED like one since the beginning, and with the super AGE system allowing it to convert into giant beam cannon mode.

Ok, just watched #15, and apparently, this is the "end" of the original generation, and next episode begins "Gundam Age: The NEXT Generation" my major problems with this story from #15.....

Flit is in full seed mode and mad as hell over the death of his girlfriend Yurin, ok, they never really GOT to that stage, but it's clear by the way the story is told he wants it to be that way, the girl on the Diva pining for him is sure to feel special about that. *drinking game! Every time Emily says "Flit!" you take a shot, you'll be dead by the end of the show......* Evil defeated leader leaves his mobile suit and Flit is hot on his heels!

Captain gets his revenge eventually (after the poor "You go first!" red shirts pave the way) for the deaths of his wife and child, discovers that the UE are martian settlers that got radiated and thus ignored by the Earth Federation, and they now have a major axe to grind with the EF. Ok, that's all well and good, and they take down one of the martian bases, so why wouldn't you continue on to Mars and finish them off??????? Nooooo, Captain surrenders to the EF, and as thanks for helping throw him in the clink for his rebellion. Wouldn't the entire crew also suffer the same fate? Nope, apparently not. So now several years will pass between 15 + 16 where Flit and his second choice have a kid with DBZ hair.

Ugh, my head hurts.......

So, I just watched 15+16 myself. Ep 15 went exactly as I expected it would. I was really hoping (but not expecting XD) that Flit would actually pull the trigger, but no, pussy 'til the end. Can't have him killing humans now can we? They couldn't pop that other kid either; I guess they need him for a later episode. Did Grodek face a firing squad for imitating a captain and hijacking the warship and attacking the police? Of course not, he just got some jail time. Did the Earth Federation bury the UE's identity again? Of course not, a single ship had too many people compared to everyone who was involved in sending multiple colonies to mars who were easily taken care of.

So yeah, ep 16. 25 years later, and not a single upgrade to the standard issue mobile suits. It's not like they have an AGE system or had 25 years to improve them or anything... Yeah. At least the main characters are a bit older then Flit and crew were and thus should not be quite as annoying.

That was glaring to me as well, wtf were they doing for 25 years? They parked the Gundam in a barn for cripes sake, and the vega for some reason are so stupid they can't figure that out. You would also think the vega's mobile suits would've improved over the 25 years making the Gundam all but useless needing to be given the 00-raiser treatment. They didn't, it's not, and just doesn't make sense. It's like Flit stopped piloting it at the end of #15, stuck it in a barn, and became joe soldier for the EF. Makes no sense whatsoever.
