Mary Esther, FL | Boost Mobile and roaming.. What does this »Sprint Announces LTE Plans mean for my boost mobile phone? If sprint is removing roaming, will this mean I'll have coverage after Sprint does the transaction to this new system? I'm thinking about switching from Boost to Tmobile because I refuse to have a contract just to have true nationwide coverage and it's sad that sprint won't allow their roaming to be included with their packages. More and more people are moving to no contract phones and, will probably never go back to contract phones.

kudos:2 | To my knowledge Boost (CDMA handsets) and Virgin Mobile USA do not roam... if it's not a sprint or sprint partner network it will never connect (excepting emergency calls).
Boost iden handsets never roamed, as there are no other iden providers to roam onto.
The new sprint plan is to use a new type of tower that does multimode... it will do CDMA(voice+evdo), WiMax and LTE. Eventually iden will go away and those frequencies will do LTE and CDMA-voice.
So... if your Boost phone is an iden handset eventually (by 2013) you will need to move to a Boost CDMA or even a Boost CDMA/LTE handset (no CDMA/LTE handsets exist on Boost yet).
If you phone is a Boost CDMA handset you will notice no difference after the changeover. |

Mary Esther, FL | Then answer me this, why is the BOOST coverage so much slimmer than SPRINT? I have boost's samsung galaxy. I want to learn this before I decide to make the switch.

Because on sprint you can roam onto other cdma networks that sprit has agreements with, on boost you can only connect to the sprint network.
The roaming allowances are pretty slim data wise...

Yes a tower would need to be working for you to make or receive calls.
The "unlimited" only really applies to sprint's network as you can see. |
