Seems decent so far.

I've read all the neg reviews. Out of the box, I had the same problem as most of you. Constant drops, slow speeds, etc.

So far I'm going on day 3 and it seems like its getting better. Only time will tell if they throttle me.

First day I was getting speeds around 3-4mbps down on speedtest.net

Today at 4:30PM, which I'm assuming is getting into peak usage time, I got this.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Mine also. I don't understand all the complaints and problems people seem to have. Got mine in a major electronics store and the Clear sales guy was nice an seemed honest. Got home followed the set-up instructions and it worked no problems. Had it a little over 2 months now and so far it's been fine. Daytime speed is normally 8-10mbps and at night it frequently is slower but still good. Have had no disconnects or .5mbs speeds that others claim. I have watched netflix, though not every day, with no isssues. My kids both play an MMO(avg 120ms lag, not as good as dsl but much better than I exxpected) and stream Hulu at the same time, no problem. But now if you intend to stream hd netflix twice a night and download torrents all day I might would expect trouble. If thats what you need you'd be better to get cable or dsl. For what it is I have been more than happy with the service so far.

Now you can't expect broadband wireless to perform like cable or have as good and consistent speed, that's simply not realistic.

Still decent. Latency is up a little though.

Latency up and down through the day. Seems like network congestion.

i will be watching these threads. If this turns out to be a viable option i will boot my crappy going up to $45 a month 1.5 DSL out.

Here too. I am on month two. I just dropped my 1.5Mb VZ DSL service which struggled to do 750Kbps. I am getting between 5 and 10 Mb/s on Clear. Other than a single 24 hour total outage, which required a clear tech to visit and repair a tower, the connection has been solid. Their tech support was OK, better than VZ's, but that's not saying much.

I am in a densely populated urban area, I use the connection heavily (see usage graph below), and have not experienced any throttling at all. Speeds and latency are consistently good.

Re: Seems decent so far, still

yep mine is still ok. I have had some evenings of slower speed but I expect it's network congestion since the speed varies. But like I said I would not be surprised to see throttling if you someone uses a lot of data as this is wireless broadband not hardwired, and it's common to throttle speeds to conserve bandwidth. My usage is much lower than yours, only 23gb for the month. I do have a dsl line which is consistent in speed but less reliable up time. So I'm still happy with it so far and hope it continues the way it has

Re: Seems decent so far.

I think the only way to know is to try it. Seems like it really depends on your location. They supposedly have a 30 day trial which should be more than enough time to judge the service. I have had some slow nights but I think that's to be expected on occasion.

Yeah, me too! I had Verizon "Naked DSL". It went down on average of twice a year, and it always took them a week or more to fix. The last outage was a broken wire, which they refused to replace because they said data is not tariffed, and they didn't have to. So, they put me on another wire which could hardly do 750Kb/s. Then that went down last month! So, I got this clear WiMax, and I am very happy with it. It beats the pants off VZ's DSL. I could never stream video like I can now.

I figure we have a good two years of this till Clear goes bust. Sprint is going LTE, so the massive influx of their crap iPhones won't be arriving on this WiMax network.

Re: Seems decent so far.

oh your speeds are better than mine by far. I usually get 8-10 with 9 being the avg. Latency is usually 80-82, sometimes a little less. The tower is not far away but I suspect there are probably a lot of clear users in my area. You might call this "little mexico" lol. No offense meant but there are bound to be a lot here that can't get regular hardwired internet for various reasons.

This morning is very good with better than normal latency. Usually a good bit slower in the evenings getting as low as 2mbps a few times when I checked but I get similar results on my phone. It varies a lot depending on time, location and tower load. Still I have had no downtime in more than 2 months and never have needed to reset the modem. More than I can say for the AT&T dsl line.

Yeah just watch out for the ole bait and switch. I was seeing 10Mbps during my trial period. Obviously, I figured, great.. Shortly after, service came to a complete halt. Nothing was done at the time, no heavy downloading, etc. Many others have experienced this as well. A year now and I barely see over .50 Mbps. Its worse during peak hours. Every night at 3AM they "uncap" me, and I actually see the speeds I pay for. But, it only lasts a few hours, then back to crap for the next 24 hours.

Overall horrible service. I have no isp alternative, but when I do, i'm out, fast, very fast. Service is bad, very bad.

About 10,000 other people on the clear forums agree. Nice to see SOME get decent service though. Lucky you.

P.S. computers & networking are what I do, so, the possibility of it being "user end" is not a possibility. Its just bad/oversold service.

i had the 60 dollar bundle for 2 weeks and was getting great speeds...usually 7 to 11 meg down and a capped 1 meg up... not one dropout ...service worked great..... but we have netflix and direct tv on demand so that was a deal breaker. a 2 hour hd movie uses about 3.8 gigs ..throw in a few 1/2 hour office episodes and you will easily go over 4 gigs in a 7 day rolling period...which is the systems cap for throttling... so i cancelled my clear home during my trial period but kept the mobile for work.... you may get lucky and be hooked up to a low use tower and not get capped so its a roll of the dice...most likely youll be cuttin them loose and paying the penalty to cancel if your under contract...
...keepin my uverse for home.ill never get close to their 250 gig cap
