overcharged county car tax?

Is there anything that one can do if they were possibly overcharged a county tax for a car from a dealership? Believe the amount overcharged is over $200.

Re: overcharged county car tax?

Depends, did they actually pay it to the county or pocket it? I would talk to the county department of taxation and see what was actually paid on your vehicle first.

Is this a sales tax or property tax? I would find it highly unlikely a dealer would pay the county property tax at time of sale.

DMV wants the extra tax?
If so bring them your sales reciept and see why!
Could be the dealership didn't charge you enough tax!

called the county department of revenue, tax is correct. what through me off was what was listed on the dealerships website; appears there's a county fee and county tax.

What kind of tax? Sales? Ad Velorem (county tax based on vehicle value)?

Here in Texas I know alot of dealers estimate the taxes and usually go high. I've had a few occasions where I've gotten a check in the mail from the dealer for the excess after they have gone and gone the title and registration change. My experiences were cash sales but If your vehicle is financed then they probably sent the refund to the finance company.

Same here, when I bought my car (financed) my dealership estimated the tax a little too high, a few weeks later I received a check in the mail.
