What did you do differently between the first attempt that failed and the second?
Take a look at modem logs if it happens again, may be the connection dropped rather then a DNS problem.

| I did the first ping, then hit return, then did the second ping
Must be local to me. I will try to find the modem log. Have no clue as how to debug this. Thanks for the reply |

I am also having dns problems and after talking with Fairpoint tech today they are agreeing and are going to investigate further. Not sure what can be done until problem fixed??? |

| irdns.sbvt.myfairpoint.net seems to be better at resolving these domain names I am thinking about changing the the settings in the dsl modem. Haven't talked to Fairpoint about this. Keep us posted.

| also having problems here for over a week now. Seems to only affect certain web pages. Not common ones like MSN, Google, etc. Usually a browser refresh will then connect to the desired address. Salem NH, Fiber Line. Haven't contacted support yet. |

| I have been having the exact same problem as described by BillInSalem since mid-late October. Last night, I found this page »www.who.is/dns/fairpoint.net/ and I changed my router/modem DNS configuration from "Enable automatic assigned DNS" to primary=137.118.1.28 and secondary=137.118.1.29. I'm using a D-Link DSL modem with wired/wireless router built in - model DSL-2640B.
After rebooting the modem, this seems to have resolved our problems. We are now able to go to most any web site without error and things are working well so far. |

| Change to OpenDNS servers and so many problems magically go away. They server 30 billon dns requests per day. Free. I've been using them for about 8 years.
