The unlimited data plan is the only thing setting Sprint apart from Verizon and AT&T. The unlimited data plan is the only thing setting Sprint apart from Verizon and AT&T. Take that away and why would anyone want to choose this crappy excuse for a phone company? Verizon is set to last as far as roaming goes. Typically they use the regional carriers in an area and then fall back to Verizon as last resort. Up here it is US Cellular for roaming priority whenever possible.
Unlimited data isnt the only thing that keeps me with Sprint. Another is price. Another is that i just can not bear to give my money to the other two. I dont like what they do and how they get things done..particularly with buying what they want from the government.
Another point is their drive for new technology. Sprint was the first with quite a few things. Their marketing department is what sucks though and they often got trumped by the other two when they rolled out a similar service months / years after Sprint. -- Usenet Block Accounts | Unlimited Accounts | | |

In my part of the world, while Sprint voice service still sounds like you're underwater, their signal coverage is sufficient. And their 3G data performs 3-4x faster than VZW, probably because of biases like yours and the preponderance of fruit-company phones.
Alas, with the availability of the iPhone, I suspect their network performance will suffer much congestion, all the while Karl berates them for attempting to manage their spectrum. | | ropeguruPremium join:2001-01-25 Mechanicsville, VA | reply to pnh102 said by pnh102:Seriously, why does anyone *choose* Sprint? Because in my area, AT&T has just rolled out 3G, it is still buggy and speeds suck. Verizon has still yet to get 3G in this area, 1x only. US Cellular just plain sucks as a company, has 3G but few phones to select from and are higher in plan pricing.
Sprint gives me plan pricing comparable to Verizon and AT&T, actually a little better as automatically get unlimited text and other perks, and they have good consistent 3G coverage in all the areas I travel.
So for some of us it isn't the ONLY thing that sets them apart. | | | reply to elray said by elray:said by pnh102:Seriously, why does anyone *choose* Sprint? Their coverage, compared to Verizon, stinks. Heck, most of their coverage is provided by Verizon.

Have you tried VZW LTE in your area? Also the iPhone shouldn't have anything to do with Sprint's network slowdown, everyone just assumes the iPhone is a data hog, when in fact its the Android devices that are data hogs and Sprint has had those for a long time now. Its Sprint's failure to upgrade and maintain their network that is the cause of all this. | | TsumePremium join:2004-02-23 Johnson City, TN | reply to pnh102 said by pnh102:Seriously, why does anyone *choose* Sprint? The unlimited data plan is the only thing setting Sprint apart from Verizon and AT&T. Take that away and why would anyone want to choose this crappy excuse for a phone company? Because it's cheaper, they have a better WP7 phone at this time, and texts to/from Canada are included with the unlimited text plan. Their network was suffering slowdowns at least a week or two prior to the release.
Further, Sprint's launch was hardly a success as measured to AT&T which still hold king of the iPhone. There were Sprint stores all over the place that had iPhones on Saturday after the Friday launch. Try to find one on AT&T.. Verizon just had a launch a few months back and since they launched the 4, I really don't see many people going to the 4S. (While the 4S really should be a 5, it's still not enough to wow many people since there was no form factor design change and other things that people can touch and see in order to motivate the change. The processor is nice, the camera is nice.. but that's not enough)
But, the iPhone didn't "kill the network"... I believe what's trying to be told here is that the iPhone was a disappointment because those Sprint customers who have frothed at the mouth to finally have a Fruit Phone on the Now Network finally DID get it, happy as could be, only to be disappointed that the experience they were expecting was more rightfully labeled as "iPhone, on the "at some point network".. in other words, Sprint's network was already slow but people were of the belief that the iPhone would be awesome no matter what.
Sprint's network has been having issues through out the country for a while. I know many people who have been getting less than dial up modem speeds no matter what part of the metro they are in and this story repeats not only in Minnesota, but Missouri, California, Utah, Iowa, and other places that I'm aware of.
What Sprint is doing right now is trying to get from point A to B (which is dumping WiMax and getting into LTE) but they're not going to admit to the public that the liquidity is their issue. So, they're tightening up their belt by putting it around the neck of every customer out there and disguising it as a change to the system "in order to bring a better experience".. personally I don't see what was wrong with our experience PRIOR to these changes. The only change I see in this case is "less for the same" and it couldn't be more obvious.
What Sprint doesn't realize is that they took the wrong path this time. They should have raised capital and left their fragile customer base alone; not put it on the backs of the customers. What they're doing is making AT&T and Verizon look better by comparison and the other two know it. | | | reply to pnh102 Haha, why? Because they're the best:
1) UNLIMITED data plan on my smartphone.
2) LOWEST prices.
3) EXCELLENT coverage where I live and work. | | Homer JMmmm, Free Goo join:2000-10-05 Springfield | reply to pnh102 Actually when they started Verizon was Spint's biggest customer. 450 anytime min +300 bonus anytime nights and weekends that start at 7 for no additional charge I can call any mobile phone in the US unlimited Unlimited smart phone data Unlimited SMS and MMS
25% discount to MRC due to my employer.
at&t just takes the percent discount off the primary line on the voice MRC. They wont take it off the text and data nor the secondary line MRC. Sprint takes it off the whole bill.
Now yes you are right I roam on Verizon if I don't have service. That means I have both coverage area's combined!
Oh yeah and Sprint has some of the cheapest international long distance around. See for yourself »shop.sprint.com/mysprint/service···he%20U.S.

What they're doing is making AT&T and Verizon look better by comparison and the other two know it. Agree. The Apple store here at least is out of AT&T and VZW iPhone's. They almost have a full stock of Sprint iPhone's.
The network here in AL and GA has been pathetic since I can remember, its just been getting worse. They have capacity for 2007, not 2011.
They are only running 1 EVDO carrier and 1 CDMA voice carrier vs. VZW running 8 EVDO carriers and 10 voice here, AT&T is running 6 3G carriers which is a good bit considering their tower density.
Sprint shouldn't have bought Nextel, and they should have at least integrated by now. AT&T acquired the divested portions of VZW/Alltel merger in places like SD and MT and converted all those area's to UMTS from CDMA. Its pretty pathetic how long its taking them. Its because a lack of money.
Now all the iPhone users who want to save a buck are getting pissed and actually exposing the network for what it has been for the last few years. | | | reply to pnh102 said by pnh102:Seriously, why does anyone *choose* Sprint? $55/mo. for 1200 "anytime" minutes on two phones, free nights & weekends (starting at 7 p.m.), free Sprint mobile-to-mobile.

said by pnh102:Their coverage, compared to Verizon, stinks. Heck, most of their coverage is provided by Verizon. Nonsense. In my area, S.E. Michigan and, less frequently, other areas of southern Michigan, I almost never roam.
Plus, as I noted elsewhere, if I did want to go to a data plan, Sprint is still less expensive than Verizon or "AT&T," and for unlimited data.

Sprint: $150 deposit per line for service, up to 2 lines. Verizon: $450 deposit, only 1 line. AT&T: $700 deposit, only 1 line. T-Mo: $350 deposit, only 1 line.
Not so crappy. | |
