Re: [Scam] Card Services relentless phone calls revisited

said by JALevinworth :

if you set this up, post back how it's working out for you. If get the recording level right, you will note right away the robo calls will disconnect upon hearing the tone (getting deleted out the the bank may take more than one call though... although it's possible it might be due to my recording quality not the exact pitch or they have a set limit to try again, don't know).

I'd be curious to hear how you did.
-Jim

I finally got around to installing the SIT tone at the beginning of my answering machine's message. We simply don't answer any numbers that we don't recognize and let the machine take them. The robo calls click off immediately following the tone. Puzzled people who don't know my voice mumble and hang up. Our friends and family aren't sure what to make of it, but it amuses me. The message I installed is at the link below. Great fun, eh?

Ahhhaha! Bravo! That's just freakin awesome.

May I have your permission to keep a copy?

Sure, help yourself! It really seems to work well, so thanks for the idea. With the onset of the "political robo-call season" I'm looking forward to hearing the auto-bot robo-callers hangup each time they hear the SIT tone.

Got it. Thanks!
You're very welcome and glad to help.

I've gone months and months now having killed off the lists my house number was on, but the politcos are sure to start any time now. Might just use your file when I finally get rid of my old answer machine/manual method and fully automate my flow with that old number. No one that actually knows me uses it anyway.

Logged 503-902-8287 at 2:34PM and again at 4:55PM. Filed another complaint with FCC regarding DNC. Will contact the CT AG's office tomorrow or Monday with my legal question.

Thanks, I added those two to the list. Looking at my phone logs I found another that can be added, called yesterday while we were out: 971-220-1262

Edit to add: I found one from a few days ago, now also added to the block list: 503-468-5012.

I had an interesting one last week. I don't recall the number that came up, but the name simply came up as "Phone." Like I was going to answer that one!

Last week, one call from Card Services slipped by the SIT tone on my machine and left a partial message. It started its spiel as the voice part of my message played so that only the last part of the Card Services recording (warning me that this would be my last chance to take advantage of their services) was present. It terminated itself when no button was pressed to continue. The CID showed as:

Portland OR: 971-373-2989

I received 5 other calls that auto-terminated as soon as the SIT tone played. A few were probably Card Services but I have no way to verify that. None of the numbers belong to any organization, business, or individual that I know. They showed up in the CID as:

800 Service: 888-617-8369
Flint MI: 810-835-4028
Cell Phone CA: 213-504-5207
Kirkland WA: 425-658-8994
800 Service: 877-202-5429

Today I got hung up on yet again by a friendly person at card services.
This is a list of numbers they have used so far.

Yes, I have filed multiple complaints with the FCC. If I could get a location, I would sue the beejeesus out of them. I'm so sick of these jerks...

I've been getting the same call over and over, so here is the way am fighting back... keep them on the phone for a long as possible... time is money for them, the longer you keep them on the phone the less money they have, keep them very busy answer their questions with yes all the time but don't give them any information, if you have to just the minimum information the better, like the first name, but not everything... the longer you have them on the phone the more money they loose, the busier they are and eventually they will go away because they will realize that people are getting smarter... remember, KEEP THEM ON THE PHONE for long as possible.

503-902-8103 about two minutes ago, on the VOIP phone. It's very odd to hear that number ring, since we only use it for outgoing long-distance calls.

FWIW 503-902-8xxx is still Pacific Telecom.

Thanks. I just saw we got a call from 586-501-3311 with a CID of "Giving Hearts" but, according to 800notes, is a window company.

The same number just called my cell phone. It's interesting to note that my VOIP and my cell are in very different area codes.

Yesterday I received another "Card Services" call from the following number:

847-111-0000

Their call-bot now appears to ignore the SIT tone and starts its message as soon as the tone is detected. At any rate, as the message finished, I went ahead and pressed "9" to speak with a representative.

As expected, he started with the usual question, "Are you interested with help with your credit card debt?"

I did my best to ramble like a moron with lots of animal noises interjected. It felt good to drop to their level. He let me go on for about 10 seconds then started screaming obscenities and then launched into a line about how arrogant I was to be wasting his valuable time. I kept interrupting with a lot of snorting and eventually burst out laughing and he hung up. Of course it didn't accomplish anything, but his rage was both amusing and inspiring.

Ah well, it's my phone number so therefore they have to play by my rules.

NNN-1xx-xxxx is fake. I believe that's an additional crime, along with the DNC violation.

QFT -- that's what I told a collections agent just after she objected to the string of obscenities I directed at her.

Yup, the number spoofing is over the top. It looks like the FCC is adopting new rules to come to our rescue. Of course, since that particular federal agency doesn't have much of a record lately for enforcing their own rules, who cares?

I did find it funny that the first reader's comment in response to this story at CBSnews was related to the "Card Services" spiel.
