Distributel Internet

Hey, guys

I just found Distributel internet, currently I'm spending around $60 with bell and getting around 5 down and .5 up. With a 100GB cap

Then I found Distributel's cable plan for about $50

Truly unlimited downloads**

Download speed up to 15 Mbps, upload speed of up to 1 Mbps

Modem included at no extra cost

Up to 5 email accounts

25 MB of hosting space for a personal web page

10 hours of Dial-Up Internet (great for access from remote areas

I'm just wondering if these speeds are true, and if you think the download cap will stay unlimited.

I just setup my friends uncle on border of oshawa/whitby with this package.

The speed is actually 23Mbit. Would be 25Mbit if it used the docsis 3.0 modem.

Speed was steady. not traffic shapping on the upload or download.

When i left there was a few torrents going. Steam downloading at 2.6MB/s.

Its a good deal. Since they're covering the $100 rogers installation fee and modem rental fees.

Basically you get.
Rogers 25/1 plan for $59.99 (80GB cap)
$4-$5 modem rental fee
$25 max overusage fee
$90 a month

for $50
and $100 installation fee covered by distributel.

The usage caps issue is cloudy at the moment (like the weather). Current rumours now expect a CRTC decision on the issue in the second half of November.

At the moment, caps are at the discretion of each ISP, and if they say "unlimited", then they can deliver.

From what I've heard/seen Distributel is still giving out Docsis 2 modems.

25/1. i am on the 12Mbps plan and they didn't say anything about the upgrade of the 15Mbps to 25.

It might be the rogers speedboost acting up?

ok looks like teksavvy and acanac have upgraded their cable plans to 24/1 too. So looks like distributel has done it too except they haven't added it to the site.

I have a 2.0 modem. Do i need a 3 to upgrade to the 24 plan? because on teksavvy it says that u need a 3.0 in order to get 24Mbps else you can only max out at 15.

On Teksavvy they will force you buy a Docsis 3.0 modem to sign up for 24/1 service even know you don't really need one. Support is non existence and expect your install to be delayed and messed up in some way but there prices are cheaper Distributel.

i just called them and they said they haven't upgraded them yet and are waiting on rogers for that so i have no idea what the agent said :/. They said when it happens it will be reflected on the website. It is already done in Alberta.

this is the latest update from their twitter account:

Distributel Distributel
@Xzap There's no firm time-table for the upgrade. We're testing to make sure everything is stable! Some under 15mpbs may get higher speeds

And this one from facebook:

DISTRIBUTEL We've seen some of our competitors stumble by rushing to upgrade speeds in the past and that's something we want to avoid. Once it's upgraded, we don't want any line stability or speed issues to occur!

That said, you may experience higher than advertised speeds in Ontario under the 15Mbps plan, but we don't guarantee it. You can use speedtest to check it out for yourself

They're full of shit, if Acanac has it, then they have it, they share the same lines to/from the POI's to the NOC.

Yep i know and i replied back saying the same thing on facebook. This is BS. I want to upgrade to 24Mbit and now I have to go to acanac, pay the modem set up fee, etc. when I could have just paid distributel directly. I have the 12Mbps plan and I don't want to switch over from a reseller of rogers to a reseller of reseller of rogers just to upgrade :/

mlppp

@acanac.net

There is a hidden message inside of what distributel is saying
1. They're saying all area's may not be upgraded yet to 24Mbit from 15Mbit . So they're not advertising it.
2. All areas may not be capable of sustaining 24Mbit and this can cause the POI's and nodes to get further congestion. Making advertising 24Mbit instead of 15Mbit for now, needlessly adding problems to support.

I don't know if the 12mb plans went up in speed, the 15mb went to 24.

Upgrade to the 15mb plan make sure you have a DOCSIS 3 modem and you golden.

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?

with distributel, they give you the modem for free. So i don't want to go buy a 3.0 modem right now and see that i am stuck at 15 still as distributel is not guaranteeing the 24 yet. They said some may experience it and I am not sure if my area has been upgraded. I don't want to switch to acanac or teksavvy yet as I have had good service from DIS. The waiting on the phone is a nightmare so i leave a call back number and I think i have left them the number 6 times now and still get called back within an hour all the time. (knock on wood)

Free modem? Since when? Mind you Rogers gave me the 5100 I have, but I had to buy modems for both my Brother in laws when they signed up on 3web.

Waiting? I get through to them rather quickly these days, I'm impressed how things have changed over the years. They have a new call centre and NOC in Thunder Bay now.
