Re: Distributel Internet Yeah i had to wait 45 minutes 2 days ago just to ask about this upgrade and then i just left my phone number and they called me back in 20 minutes. Their wait times are all over the place. Sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 30. They also have twitter and facebook and respond very quickly to those posts. I haven't had a single downtime or any problems with my internet so far (knocks on wood).
If you look at their website, all new installations are free and modem is delivered for free too. If you look at my review that is the reason why i chose to go with them as wasting 50 dollars and trying something new is better than taking a risk with 150 dollars and going with teksavvy or acanac.
They have improved significantly over the years which is why i am patiently waiting for them to come out with the 24Mbit plan. |

 | reply to Satya said by Satya:with distributel, they give you the modem for free. So i don't want to go buy a 3.0 modem right now and see that i am stuck at 15 still as distributel is not guaranteeing the 24 yet. They said some may experience it and I am not sure if my area has been upgraded. I don't want to switch to acanac or teksavvy yet as I have had good service from DIS. The waiting on the phone is a nightmare so i leave a call back number and I think i have left them the number 6 times now and still get called back within an hour all the time. (knock on wood) Take a close look at Distributel's plans, notice that their prices are higher than Teksavvy, Acanac and 3Web (though 3Web site now redirects to Distributel)
Wonder why? The modem is not free, it's a rental and that fee is buried in the final price |

·Distributel Cable
2 edits | acanac cable for 12Mbps in Ontario - 1 Month Term $47.95
distributel for 12Mbps in Ontario - 43.95
teksavvy for 12Mbps (300gig cap) - 36.95
»www.distributel.ca/en/product.as···ernet_12
Remember acanac's prices listed on website are for 1 year term (Pricing and Speed Information. Please be aware that the $35.95 and $39.95 promo is only available on a one year term.) Teksavvy with modem fee = 75 dollars + activation fee = 22.95 which equals 98 dollars.
If u ignore the 300gig cap and see the price difference between TSI and DIS - i.e 7 dollars per month extra and after 1 year it will be 84 dollars difference. So even after 1 year Distributel is 14 dollars cheaper than teksavvy.
The End result is I would rather pay only the 50 dollars (inclusive of taxes) and risk out a company than pay the modem and activation fee with teksavvy and see that I have problems with my connection and definitely will not pay for a 1 year term with acanac.
P.S : I haven't looked at any other plans as I was only interested in the 12Mbps plan. |

 | Just signed up with Distributel (on the 12mbps plan) for the exact reasons you just spelled out. Being in an apartment with quite a few Rogers customers I wanted unlimited cable internet with less upfront costs and risks.
Fortunately so far there hasn't been any real hitches, and the speed is fairly consistent at 19mbps (with a ping of 6-10ms). Upstream of course is locked at 0.5mbps. |

 | reply to aross Anyone using Distributel around the hwy 7 and mccowan area? How's the speed and connection? Thanks! |

| reply to neuromancer1 said by neuromancer1:said by Satya:ok looks like teksavvy and acanac have upgraded their cable plans to 24/1 too. So looks like distributel has done it too except they haven't added it to the site.
I have a 2.0 modem. Do i need a 3 to upgrade to the 24 plan? because on teksavvy it says that u need a 3.0 in order to get 24Mbps else you can only max out at 15. On Teksavvy they will force you buy a Docsis 3.0 modem to sign up for 24/1 service even know you don't really need one. Support is non existence and expect your install to be delayed and messed up in some way but there prices are cheaper Distributel. What modems or service? I'm paying $40/month for 24/1 unlimited service, Teksavvy wants $55. -- It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what? |

 | reply to aross Just got the 15mbps / $50 a month service activated.

| That entirely depends on Rogers, here in Scarberia, they've rolled it out, but I'm still using my 5100, wee hours it's great(22-23 mb), but starting around noon, it starts to drop back to 15mb. I'm sure a D3 modem would help, but I can't buy one right now. -- It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. | Just realized your a existing cx is that your only option/alternative to switch out your modem is to buy another one(do you own that modem or are you renting it?) That's another thing Im hesitant about Im planning on renting the modem that's what 2 of my friends/peeps did(that have/went with Distributel) but if docsis 3 gets rolled out what's my options of switching it out if Im renting it? |

 | reply to aross Modem rental is included, they cover the rogers service fee, 10 dollar activation. |

 | Thanks very much! Hmmm, thats still a docsis2 modem however. My friend says he hasn't had any downtime either with them so, Im very tempted to give them a shot. Appreciate the answers to my questions! :P! ! |

aross join:2011-10-22 Stittsville, ON | reply to MadFerIt Just got it in today. The speed is very weird though. Download is anywhere from 2mb/s to 23mb/s down. .1mb/s to .5mb/s up. And ping is anywhere 60-130. Its bizarre. When its at 23mb/s it's awesome. But when the speed is worse then my DSL, doesn't seem worth the upgrade. I'm not sure if it improves over a week or so, but I will give a update later next week. |
|
 | Ok awesome, keep us/me posted please & thanks a bunch!
Obviously with the CRTC UBB decision upcoming now this friday my decision will be impacted based on that as well! :P! ! |

 | reply to aross I agree, I wouldn't call it the most stable Internet. It's ok, but it's nothing compared to modern connections like FTTP and even Docsis3.
I've noticed that web downloads are often quite slow and rarely exceed 500K. However, it's not hard to download at 1.5 MB/s on torrents.
The service is adequate for entry level last generation Internet. For the Internet ghetto that is Ottawa, it's very decent. |
|
 | Hi, looking to move just south of Barrhaven to Stonebridge in a new townhome. Do you get ~23 mb/s where you are in Ottawa with distributel? Which are of the city are you in? I'm considering going to Rogers or Bell for their one year deal but would rather have a solution I can stick with beyond that. |
