[Trojan] system restore trojan

My wife's computer has somehow become infected with a system restore virus.

Its a dell desktop running Windows 7

It basically runs a "scan" and comes back with all kinds of "errors" like hard drive failing, files failing etc. Of course if we want it "repaired" we click on button where it brings us to a site where we can buy the repair software. A complete scam.

All of our files, folders, control panel, etc are completely hidden. We were able to get a browser open and download spybot S&D (which didnt help) and update McAfee- but mcaffee's isnt working - I believe the trojan blocks the download update.

I sorta blame McAfee for letting us down- When Macafee expired, my wife went online and bought the 2 year ,3 computer plan.. She thought she was covered..It turns out her Dell kept the old expired McAfee and the new renewall never was applied to that specific computer. It was like 2 seperate McAfee's, one paid and one unpaid. Our fault for not making sure and McAfee's fault for not realizing we did have an additonal 2 years paid up. However thats irrelevant at this time.

So we are at the point where we cannot see any of our programs or files or anything and we need help to rid us of this virus.

I dont know what to do, I was thinking of burning mcaffee to a cd and letter her try to run it from the cd-rom, but I dont know if thats possible.

Any help greatly appreciated!
