I can reach here ONLY via IP address!

I can only reach this site via IP address 209.123.10.175.

DNS lookup for the www.dslreports.com and www.broadbandreports.com is not working.

I had no dslr style sheet here either until a couple of minutes ago (even after logging in).

Site is loading VERY SLOWLY...about like dialup. I am not having trouble at other sites.

I noticed that last night (about 1 hour before you posted). It seems that the easynds nameservers were having "issues" at that time.

But what do "easydns" servers have to do with my ISP's DNS servers or Level 3's? I have four DNS servers (first three are Oceanic TWC and fourth is Level 3). They returned "host name lookup failed" for dslreports.com and broadreports.com. I also could not run a command line trace route or Ping Plotter to this site. But where do easyDNS servers come into play?

The site was down for me last night at 12:30 AM.

This doesn't show any downtime, but the ping time spiked:

Switch your DNS servers to OpenDNS that was you can utilize their SmartCache.

Open DNS is too slow and requires cookies if you do not want redirection. Why would I want to use a SLOW, VERY FAR AWAY DNS server that redirects me, against my wishes, to their advertising site BREAKING Internet protocol, making me look at their ad page, or, to avoid that, forcing me to get an account with them so they can TRACK EVERY MOVE I MAKE ON THE INTERNET? My ISP is guilty of the same redirection crap BUT my ISP already knows who I am and can track me if they want and there is nothing I can do about that. My ISP also offers an opt out cookie which I took advantage of years ago when they started the redirection crap. I don't object to my ISP having a cookie to keep me in opt of redirect with them because my ISP already requires cookies for other reasons, but I certainly am not going to accept either redirection, or a permanent account and cookie, to avoid that utter crap with Open DNS! Besides GRC recommends against using Open DNS or any DNS server that forces redirection.

I am merely reporting to this site that maybe they should get a more reliable DNS provider.

It seems to be working for others. Why don't you think it's the DNS you use?

Oh well if GRC recommends against that I better abandon ship! It was merely suggestion, clam down.

That's because there is a missing digit in the IP address in my first post. It should be "109" not "10" so try 209.123.109.175. Sorry.

I haven't had the problem in awhile now.

Re: I can reach here ONLY via IP address!

I use opendns and guess what.. No downtime for me here at dslreports.com. Worked as advertised. (and you don't need a freaking cookie to disable redirection.. I was able to log into opendns.com and disable it without a cookie. lmao.. Bashing something when you clearly have NO idea how it works.. )

1 edit

I've used Open DNS probably before most folks knew it existed and certainly before it got popular. I know how it works. I tried it years ago after trying Treewalk. It is very slow for me because there are no servers in Hawaii. It is about 50% slower than my ISP's DNS servers which are right here where I live. Neither Google NameBench or GRC's DNS Benchmark recommend Open DNS when I have them analyse which DNS servers would be best for me. They both overwhelmingly recommend my local Road Runner DNS servers and usually recommend Level 3 as second but occasionally a server I have never heard of before.

I actually use a publicly hidden DNS server that my ISP has that is for businesses I think. It not advertised for residential RR but I use it and another hidden Oceanic DNS server and then third is the fastest of Oceanic's RR servers and fourth and fifth are two of the Level 3 servers in Los Angeles. I don't allow Oceanic to try and make the second DNS server an extremely slow one that Orange RR (LA area) operates out of Colorado usually. I know what I am doing with DNS servers. I was a beta tester for GRC's DNS BenchMark from the beginning and we had a lot of newsgroup discussion as testing progressed. If you live on the Mainland and don't mind allowing Open DNS to track you and sell your information then use them. They are not recommended by DNS BenchMark because of the tracking. It is not free DNS.

What do you mean you disabled it without a cookie? You said you logged into opendns.com. That requires a cookie. Congrats, you are now paying for your "free" DNS by having made yourself trackable. You evidently don't understand how cookies work.

Um. No Cookie. Made the change on my Tmobile Android via 4g. Blocked it on my entire network.
