| Hurricane Rina Will she escape? |
Rina, Has quickly got her act together, and could track North, and even be in the Keys by this weekend.
Currently she is a Cat 1 expected to be a Cat 3 in a couple days. I'll post more later. (or anyone else is more than welcome to elaborate) |

Yesterday, Rina was going to hit the Yucatan and die. Now that may not happen. |

Rina remains a mystery, she pretty much stalled overnight and has started moving again this morning. The models are not in agreement on where this storm will go. Due to where Rina is hanging out down in the Caribbean she could be in the Keys or South Florida pretty quick if she decides to go that way.
With just a slight shift to the North she will start to pull feeder bands in across that area making the weather quite nasty for what could be a extended period of time. That's a unique feature of Florida to be able to take a hit from a storm heading East (backside hit). Of course those are never fun in the area that takes the landfall, still even across the state on the East coast the conditions deteriorate long before the storm is even in the area.
Rina is currently a cat 2 storm, with 100 MPH winds. Currently her movement is thought to be WNW at 3. (although sat imagery since that was issued looks like she might be picking up speed, to the West) It's probably going to be at least 24 hours before Rina's track plans are really known. |

 Models are converging |
Rina is still moving slowly to the West. From what I'm seeing Rina, should she follow the current projections, is promising a very nasty weather weekend for the Fantasy Fest in Key West. In contrast to that we have this message from the Fest's website.
{Hurricane Rina Not Expected to Impact Keys Fantasy Fest Continues as Scheduled Florida Keys officials closely monitoring the progress of Hurricane Rina said Tuesday they do not expect significant impacts from the storm and gave the green light for the 10-day Fantasy Fest celebration to continue. During a Tuesday conference call, Jon Rizzo, warning coordinator for the Key West National Weather Service Office, said current forecast data indicates no likelihood of the core of a hurricane or tropical storm over the Keys through Sunday, Oct. 30, the conclusion of Fantasy Fest. In its 11 a.m. Tuesday advisory, the National Hurricane Center's track of the tropical cyclone positions it over western Cuba Saturday and Sunday morning. At this time, there are no plans for visitor or resident evacuations due to Rina, Keys emergency management officials stressed. "We will continue to closely monitor the future progress of the storm," said Key West Mayor Craig Cates. "The safety of our residents and visitors is our highest priority."}

Good thing too because I'm not sure they could really evacuate all tourists even if they wanted to.
Its difficult enough with a normal summer/fall tourist load, let alone a 3-4x Fantasy Fest one. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

 SmokChsrWho let the magic smoke out?Premium join:2006-03-17 Saint Augustine, FL | Yes, it's looking more and more like Rina is going to get trapped down in the Western Caribbean Sea. Still we don't know that for sure yet. I am planning on doing an update in a few hours. |

Rina has really lost intensity overnight. This morning she's looking more like a tropical depression than a hurricane. Although at the 5AM advisory she was still given a weak Cat1 status. All the models seem to think what ever is left of her will remain trapped in the Caribbean. Might still make for a bit of rain in the Keys, but nothing like what it would be if she came out like earlier expected. |

 Hayward K A R - 1 2 0 CPremium join:2000-07-13 Key West, FL kudos:1 | And looks like no not even real rain for prime FF Parade night now.... Got a sprinkling today.
But what I said before.... had it been serious, not sure they could have gotten (and resistant) tourists out of here in time.
In normal circumstances is difficultly done.... but you have 3-4x the numbers virtually nearing twice the island population..... that is a lot of planes....unlike most of the summer few drive here for FF. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

Tropical Depression Rina making a run to Florida! Escaped and on the run! |
The remains of Rina have slipped out of the Caribbean and are heading for South Florida. She's moving pretty fast so it'll probably be gone before morning. Still it's going to make the afternoon evening pretty darn messy in SW Florida. This is a surprise move by Rina completely different from any of the forecasts.
The center of Circulation is near 24N 86W and moving fast to the NE. |
