2011 Fall Colors

So....where did they go? Are they hiding in fear of the coming socialist revolution? Are they greedily squirreling away their colors for themselves, keeping them in capitalist greed from both the shareholders and the middle class, waiting for the socialists to go back under their rocks so they can pack them all on their private jets and swoosh them away to their own island in the Bahamas...?

Juuuust kidding. About the Bahamas part, anyway.

So, seriously, where's the annual color "fall-gasm" this year? I've got several trees that I always wait in anticipation to EXPLODE into gorgeous reds, oranges, and yellows, yet this year have already moved from their summer green, through a very muted yellow, to brown, and then to the ground. On my daily commute I remember the annual "recognition" when it's a bright sunny day and I gasp in recognition of the wonder of Fall. It looks like it won't happen?

The one thing I can always brag to my family back home in Texas and Louisiana is about New England Fall, and now I can't even do that.

Disappointing.

You brag to your family in Texas about tree leaves. They brag to you about no state income tax. I think they will always win.

One of the weather-idiots said that the colors are muted this year due to all the rain we had this summer/fall.

My leaves are almost all off the trees.

If my employer had an opening down there, especially in the Dallas area, I'd be putting in for it.

Actually, my favorite part is the Texas Hill Country, north of Austin/San Antonio, near Fredericksburg/Comfort. Far enough away to be far enough away, close enough to matter. The weather is far better than Dallas (not near as much stifling heat) and Houston (not near as much stifling humidity). There's a reason a lot of folks spend their vacations on the Guadalupe River...

I grew up in Wichita Falls, hell's kitchen...great people but I absolutely hated the summers there.

I went down the Guadalupe one summer day. I grew up in Corsicana. The heat can burn you up. Thank goodness for air conditioning.

One other thing, my subscription to Texas Monthly is still being delivered up here in Connecticut.
