Re: [TV] Slow STB after 11pm You need to set the picture size on the tv itself to fit the screen. The box should be set to1080i. The aspect in the menu should only stretch the sd channels. If your manually stretching with the aspect button on the remote make sure its set to normal and your on an hd channel when you adjust the tv aspect size |

| Problem is, setting the TV for the picture size on one channel doesn't follow to the next... Screwy TV...
Anyway - BHN is bringing out a Cisco HD STB tomorrow. Should fix the "no signal' issue. To be honest, this Samsung box is hit or miss. Sometimes it works every time, and sometimes it doesn't.
Shrug... At least BHN isn't going out of their way for this. The tech I have been working with will be in the area tomorrow, so she is stopping by with the Cisco box.... -- "F is for Fire that burns down the whole town... U is for Uranium...... Bombs... N is for NO SURVIVORS!!!!!" Sheldon Plankton

| New box is a Cisco Explorer 4642HDC. Doesn't have HDMI but does have component HD. I have a set of component HD cables, so I might hook them up later tonight.
This box is MUCH faster than the Samsung... considering it has a 700MHz processor, and the Sammy had a 250.. (Compared to the SA's dual 250s)... RAM is 128MB....
We were talking about the different tests that the DSAM tester does, and she had it in a test mode (Docsis I think), and it was showing a 8dBmV uplevel headroom. From her experience, a low headroom is problems.
She also ran a constellation test, and it was a cross between gain compression and I/Q Imbalance....
So, she is going to put in to have the drop replaced, as we do have squirrels, and they are also going to put in a boxed DEMARC (not sure if that is the right term... that's the term I used). -- "F is for Fire that burns down the whole town... | reply to neonhomer Sounds like shes taking care of you!!!
Just for reference for others though, les headroom isnt bad. As long as your under the max 54db transmit your fine. There is no difference in 0 db of headroom and 15 db of headroom for the customer experience. If you want to get real technical, its actually better for the cable plant to have LESS headroom to help reduce the possibility of noise getting back into the system. |

neonhomerKK4BFNPremium join:2004-01-27 Edgewater, FL | She was telling me from her experience, that when she has seen a low uplevel headroom, she has found problems.
Regardless, they are supposed to be doing the drop changeout in the next couple of days... |

| I was just stating that for future people so that they dont freak if there transmit level is close or at the max. Just like anything else digital, Its basically an on/off threshold there isnt much of an in between. Now, if your at the threshold and are having a signal deviation issue, then it would be better to be lower so that your not dropping off. If you having a deviation issue though its just going to get worse and worse until its caught and corrected so no matter where your at, its eventually going to get affected.
Im kind of surprised shes using the constellation test, I dont know anyone who uses that. I dont even know many people who even know what they are looking at when viewing that. Props to her for that one! |

| The tech I am working with is a lead tech for the area...
For the record, the "no signal" issues have gone away, but now we are back with the lag issue again. However, I am waiting for BHN to come out tomorrow to change the drop and install a proper DEMARC.

| reply to neonhomer For anyone following this thread. A contractor was supposed to be out on Saturday the 12th to replace the drop. They never showed up. Monday, a QA guy from the same company came out to "follow up" on the install. Boy was he pissed...
BHN was informed, and said contractor was supposed to be out yesterday to change the drop. No show again....
BHN informed.... again... let's see what happens next. -- "F is for Fire that burns down the whole town... U is for Uranium...... Bombs... N is for NO SURVIVORS!!!!!" Sheldon Plankton
